2.5" Voice Coil with Advanced Cooling

The SS8-22’s 2.5" diameter, 4-layer copper voice coil is wound on a vented aluminum former for excellent thermal performance. The multi-layer coil increases motor force and control, while the aluminum former acts as a heat sink to pull heat away from the windings. Extensive venting through the spider, pole piece, subcone, and coil gap promotes airflow and keeps the driver cool, minimizing compression even during demanding playback.

Optimized Motor for Low Distortion

A triple-stacked, FEA-optimized magnet assembly drives the SS8-22, creating a strong and symmetrical magnetic field that ensures identical forward and backward cone travel. This symmetry minimizes distortion, while precision-machined plates with sculpted edges maximize magnetic transfer through the gap. An aluminum shorting sleeve, pole cap, and top plate ring keep inductance linear throughout the stroke, reducing non-linearities and enhancing clean response into the midbass region.

Consistent Performance at High Excursion

To maintain stability and eliminate rocking during high excursion, the SS8-22 uses a dual-spider suspension system. The wide spacing between spiders ensures accurate coil alignment, while stitched tinsel leads integrated into the top spider prevent fatigue and noise.
