Note: This version of the MK Kit includes the components only to build a pair of 2-way bookshelf speakers, the enclosures are not included.

A Proven Design In Kit Form

The MK Kit Components Only is created for builders who want the performance of a proven speaker design while having the freedom to create their own cabinet. By including the Dayton Audio TCP115-4 woofer, TD20F-4 tweeter, and a fully assembled crossover, the kit removes the most complex aspects of speaker design and allows the builder to focus on enclosure construction. These components have been carefully selected to work together as a system, producing a balanced response that captures the lively and enjoyable character of the MK402X speakers. Whether used in a desktop system, a small stereo system, or as part of a larger DIY audio project, this kit delivers the clear vocals, detailed highs, and satisfying low-frequency output people loved about the MK402X speaker system.

Natural Midrange and Solid Bass

Low and mid frequencies are handled by the Dayton Audio TCP115-4 woofer, which features a treated paper cone and a durable rubber surround. The treated paper cone helps produce a natural and well-controlled midrange, allowing vocals and instruments to sound clear and realistic. Combined with the compliant rubber surround, the woofer is able to move freely while maintaining excellent durability and consistent performance. The result is clean bass response along with a warm and balanced midrange character.

Smooth, Detailed Highs

High frequencies are delivered by the Dayton Audio TD20F-4 silk dome tweeter with a compact neodymium magnet motor. The silk dome design produces smooth, refined treble that avoids the harshness often associated with metal dome designs. Its controlled response allows subtle details and upper-frequency textures to come through clearly while maintaining a relaxed and natural presentation. When paired with the woofer, the tweeter helps create a balanced sound that remains clear and engaging across a wide range of music.

Preassembled Crossover for Easy Assembly

Driver integration is handled by a preassembled crossover and terminal cup that greatly simplifies the build process. The network is designed specifically for the TCP115-4 woofer and TD20F-4 tweeter, creating a smooth transition between the drivers and maintaining balanced overall response. High quality mylar capacitors and an air core inductor are used in the signal path to help maintain clean audio performance. By arriving fully assembled, the crossover eliminates complicated wiring and soldering allowing builders to concentrate on cabinet construction..

Build It Your Way

Because this version of the kit does not include cabinets, builders have the freedom to construct their own enclosure design or use the provided resources. A detailed cut sheet is included for woodworkers who want to build the cabinet from 1/2" material using common tools and techniques. For makers with access to a 3D printer, downloadable enclosure files are also provided.

1/2" Wood Cut Sheet

For builders who prefer traditional woodworking, the included enclosure design is optimized for construction using 1/2" material. The cabinet uses simple butt joints throughout, which keeps the build process straightforward and eliminates the need for complex joinery. The plans include a complete cut sheet along with detailed dimensions for every panel, making layout and cutting easy to follow. Driver cutout and recess dimensions are also provided, allowing the woofer and tweeter to mount cleanly and securely for a professional finished result.

3D Printed Enclosure

For makers with access to a 3D printer, the included enclosure files make it easy to produce a cabinet with a look similar to the original MK402X. The design incorporates internal reinforcement ribs for added rigidity along with an optimized flared port that reduces turbulence and nearly eliminates port noise or chuffing. The enclosure is designed to fit printers with a build volume of 240 x 240 x 170 mm or larger, making it compatible with many common desktop printers. The files also include a purpose-built tool that helps remove supports from areas that are otherwise difficult to reach, simplifying post-processing and helping achieve a clean finished enclosure.
