In 2017, Beyma introduced what is considered one of the finest subwoofers the company has ever produced—the 18LEX1600Nd. This highly competitive and attractive 18” subwoofer was developed through a unique blend of artistic design and cutting-edge engineering.

The term LEX stands for more than just long excursion—it also represents high power handling, linear performance, low distortion, exceptional output, reduced weight, and strong reliability.

Following its launch, Beyma continued to expand the LEX concept by developing several additional drivers, each built around the same design philosophy. These models vary in diameter and voice coil size but all feature a neodymium magnet motor structure.

In 2020, Beyma further extended the LEX series by introducing a full range of ferrite magnet versions. This move broadens the options available to sound system designers, making it easier to optimize system cost when lightweight neodymium magnets are not necessary.

These new ferrite models perform exceptionally well in vented enclosures, band-pass boxes, and horn-loaded designs. Their performance and construction make them an excellent choice for fixed installations and other permanent setups.


The 18LEX1000Fe's 1,000 W AES power handling and 98 dB sensitivity enable it to deliver clear and dynamic sound output, making it suitable for demanding audio applications. Its 3.5" DUO in/out copper voice coil enhances thermal stability, contributing to consistent performance over time. The exclusive Maltcross cooling system effectively dissipates heat, reducing power compression and maintaining consistent output during prolonged use. The driver features an Xmax of ±11 mm, allowing for extended linear cone movement and deeper bass response without distortion. With a peak-to-peak excursion before damage of 51 mm, the 18LEX1000Fe can withstand significant mechanical stress, ensuring longevity even under high-demand conditions. The weatherproof cone, treated on both sides, enhances durability and resistance to environmental factors, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications. The FEA-optimized ferrite magnetic circuit improves overall efficiency and sound quality. At Beyma, the challenge of heat dissipation is met with a clear objective: ensuring our speakers consistently deliver optimal performance within the system, maximizing total sound pressure level (SPL) and maintaining stability.

It's widely recognized that a system's overall SPL decreases over time due to power compression effects in the speakers. Typically, larger voice coil diameters correlate with higher power capacity; however, this also necessitates bigger motor structures to achieve high total output from the transducer.

Beyma's Maltcross cooling technology presents multiple solutions to achieve this goal. It enables the woofer to handle higher power levels with a given coil diameter, allowing for designs with smaller coils and motor structures. This reduction in size decreases weight, increases sensitivity, and maintains adequate power handling for specific applications, resulting in a total SPL comparable to that of drivers with larger motor structures.

Maltcross technology incorporates a forced convection circuit within the driver's core, effectively lowering the coil's operating temperature. Additionally, it functions as a demodulation ring, linearizing the transducer's inductance.
