  • LM2596 DC-DC Step-Down Module with Digital Voltmeter Display 3A 4 to 40VDC In and 1.25-37V Out

Overview

This DC-to-DC buck board enables you to add lower voltage preamp/amp boards to high powered amp board projects requiring two to three times more voltage. Therefore, it eliminates the need for two separate power supplies. This buck board converts up to 40 VDC input down to 1.25 VDC output. If the high power amp board in your audio project requires 24 VDC, the buck board takes the voltage down to 12 VDC for your lower power preamp/small amp boards. The output voltage will stay at 12 VDC for these boards even if the power is turned off and back on. The LM2596S maximum current/power capacity is 3A or 20W. You need a fan or extra ventilation if your device draws the full 20W.

Instructions

1. Hook up a power supply between 4 and 40 VDC to the VIN + and the VIN -
2. Press the black pushbutton until the OUT LED is lit above the button
3. Lightly turn the bronze trimming screw with a small slot screwdriver to the desired output voltage. (Output voltage needs to be at least 1V less than the input voltage. Check the input voltage by pressing the pushbutton until the IN LED is lit). If the voltage doesn't change after several turns clockwise, turn the screwdriver counter clockwise until the voltage starts to change.
4. Unhook or turn the power supply off. Hook up your device that needs less voltage to the VOUT + and VOUT -. Make sure the voltage trimming screw stays in the same position you left it. Plug in or turn on the power supply and push the black button on the converter board until the voltage OUT LED is lit to verify your output voltage. Turn on your device if it's not already on. Make sure your device doesn't draw more than 20W. If your device has a voltage and current rating multiply them together to get the wattage.
