The locking handle keeps the wires from spreading apart, but doesn't keep the wires from getting closer together. So don't squeeze the handle once the wires are in soldering position.

This dual-purpose tool also works perfect for removing spring hose clamps. Using regular pliers to remove a spring hose clamp presents many issues. You have to constantly squeeze the handle while working the hose clamp off the hose. Usually, the pliers slip off before the hose clamp comes off. The solder/hose clamp pliers handle locks into place enabling you to concentrate on sliding the hose clamp off. Using this tool helps you prevent damaging the spring hose clamp enabling you to use it again when you replace the hose.
