Q: How do I open the gallon bucket?
A: Acry-Tech made a video to help.
Q: What surface can we apply DuraTex to?
A: DuraTex is designed to be applied to wood, metal (Acry-Tech recommends a water-based primer like Zinsser 123 for metal), and fiberglass.
Q: How many coats do I apply?
A: Acry-Tech recommends 2 coats for sprayer and roller grader, and 3 for exterior use.
Q: How many days to cure?
A: Depending on the humidity, but typically 3 days.
Q: What kind of wood filler works?
A: Elmer’s Carpenter’s Color Change Wood Filler. It dries very hard, and you will need to sand it down. It’s compatible with DuraTex.
Q: What glue can we use?
A: Acry-Tech cannot say what is compatible. Remove as much glue as possible and perform an adhesion test.
Q: Do you need primer?
A: No.
Q: Can I use the coating at any temperature?
A: No. The surface temperature should be 65 degrees or greater.
Q: Can I use any brush to apply?
A: No. Acry-Tech recommends using their textured roller due to its texture-building formula.
Q: Can I apply a roller grade smooth without a texture?
A: Yes, use a smooth foam roller only. The nap roller will leave fibers.
Q: Can I use any spray gun?
A: You can use a spray gun, but Acry-Tech recommends a 2 1/2- or 5-gallon pressure pot system or an airless system, as the formula is too thick. The tip can not be smaller than 1.7mm. Check out their video for more info.
Q: Can I dilute the DuraTex Roller Grade?
A: NO. ACRY-TECH DOES NOT RECOMMEND YOU DILUTE THEIR FORMULA. It will change the chemical composition. They recommend using the DuraTex Spray Grade if you want a thinner formula.
Q: Do I need to let the coating dry before I apply a second coat?
A: Yes, depending on the temperature and humidity, as DuraTex is water-based and can air dry. Generally, you can reapply a second coat within an hour. A complete cure was achieved within 3 days.
Q: Is DuraTex coating waterproof?
A: No, it’s water-resistant.
Q: Is DuraTex UV protective?
A: UV coating can be added with an extra charge.
