Tang Band designed the W8-2096B 8" woofer to generate remarkably wide frequency response with particularly low harmonic distortion. To keep distortion low, Tang Band designed this driver around a massive underhung motor assembly with an impressive 1" top plate, which allows for 8.5 mm Xmax while keeping the entire voice coil inside the magnetic gap. Extensive venting around and through the 2" voice coil minimizes power compression, even when driven to the limits of excursion. The paper cone has excellent damping characteristics and the rubber surround has additional damping applied minimizing resonant peaks resulting in remarkably flat response all the way up to 5,000 Hz. Holding this all together is a rigid, non-resonant, polymer frame. This 8" woofer is the perfect choice for use in 2-way speaker systems capable of providing amazing low frequency response.
