Designed by the engineers at Parts Express, this 2-way system uses drivers known for their remarkably low distortion output allowing the DA-Wave to deliver extremely accurate response with excellent imaging. Low frequencies are handled by the impressive Wavecor WF146WA05 5-3/4" woven fiberglass cone woofer which has the ability to produce dynamic bass and smooth midrange response. For the higher frequency, the Dayton Audio RST28A-4 Reference Series 1-1/8" aluminum dome tweeter was chosen for its incredible detail and accuracy which contributes to the non-fatiguing sound that make it so popular. Capable of more output that you would expect from a speaker this size, the DA-Wave speaker will surely impress you with its ability to accurately reproduce your favorite tracks with detail and authority.
About the Drivers
The Dayton Audio RST28A-4 aluminum dome Reference Series tweeter offers exceptional efficiency from 1,500 Hz to 20,000 Hz with smooth and well controlled frequency response. This tweeter's unique black anodized 1-1/8" aluminum diaphragm and state-of-the-art motor system that includes a copper cap and shorting sleeve allows the RST28-A to produce the clean, detailed, and uncolored sound you have come to expect from Dayton Audio. A specialized damped rear chamber, well-designed phase bridge, rigid mesh grill, and several distortion-reducing paths in the motor are just a few of the features that allow these tweeters to outperform some the most expensive audiophile high-frequency transducers.
Wavecor's WF146WA05 5-3/4" woven fiberglass cone midwoofer is designed for demanding bass and midrange applications. This driver is driven by a powerful magnet structure that includes an aluminum shorting ring to ensure good efficiency and low distortion. Its 32 mm diameter voice coil is wound on a fiberglass former to minimize weight and mechanical losses for dynamic output and low-level detail. Constructed of woven fiberglass, the cone has excellent damping properties that keeps unwanted resonances under control for smooth and natural response. Extensive venting through the frame and motor cools the voice coil and gives the WF146WA05 excellent power handling while minimizing power compression. This driver produces a sound you would expect from high dollar drivers for a price that is easy to handle.
About the Enclosures
The locally sourced 1/2" MDF enclosure panels are all CNC milled for tight tolerances ensuring easy enclosure assembly. Being a sealed design the enclosure is extremely compact for placement almost anywhere, but thanks to the shallow low frequency roll off the DA-Wave is capable of more bass output that you would expect from a speaker this small. For rigidity the compact enclosure includes a center brace tying all sides together minimizing cabinet resonances. A recess for flush mounting the tweeter is pre-cut making assembly a snap. The rabbeted and dadoed panels make assemble easy, requiring only a few small clamps for a perfect fit.
