B&C DE85TN-8 2" Titanium Horn Driver 8 Ohm 4-BoltThe B&C Speakers DE85TN-8 2" titanium compression driver is an example of the transducer engineering excellence that has made this Italian company an industry benchmark. The DE85TN-8's evolution is traceable to its ubiquitous predecessors, the DE75 and DE85, found in many famous concert-level touring speaker systems. FEA-optimized ceramic ferrite magnet materials produce the driver's high flux density, and a copper cap on the DE85TN's pole piece reduces inductive losses and extends high frequency response.

B&C Speakers' line of compression drivers is the result of a continuous research effort, dedicated to refine every component in the structure, and their overall balance. Diaphragms are made of titanium, mylar, or polyimide, in order to get the required results in efficiency and bandwidth. Their shape and structure is mathematically evaluated well before building the first prototype. Afterwards, their performance is tested with methods that range from modal analysis to laser vibrotomy.
All voice coils are of the edgewound ribbon type, and made of aluminum to reduce mass and achieve the best electro-acoustic performance. The magnet assembly is designed and optimized with up-to-date software for Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and complemented, where needed, by a copper cap to improve frequency extension and linearity. Equal care is taken in the design of phase plugs, whose role in enhancing performance and reducing distortion artifacts is critical for compression drivers. The precision and transparency of B&C compression drivers is constantly improved by the progress in acoustical modeling and simulation.
