Overview
For years, RF modulators have been a popular option for distribution of audio and video signals within homes and businesses. Since the transition to DTV, modulators have fallen out of favor due to misconceptions about the new technology. Televisions with built-in ATSC tuners have the capability to scan the entire TV spectrum, searching for signals in the cable TV and UHF bands.
Commonly treated like an off-air broadcast, a locally generated RF signal can be tuned and stored into memory in televisions connected to an RF distribution system. RF modulators can still be an option for distributing audio and video from surveillance systems, commercial CCTV systems, cable and satellite receivers, and DVD or video game consoles.
