AviaTrix Sealed MTM Components Only Speaker Kit Pair

This AviaTrix Sealed MTM components kit contains everything required to construct the sealed version (L/C/R) of the MTM AviaTrix speaker project. The sealed version of the AviaTrix is recommended for a 15 liter enclosure for center channel or as small mains—the f3 models below 60 Hz, and will integrate well with a subwoofer. The AviaTrix Sealed MTM has adequate bass extension and can be used as a stand alone speaker system for 2-channel music. At the heart of the components kit are two Dayton Audio RS28F-4 1-1/8" silk dome tweeters and four Dayton Audio ND140-8 5-1/4" aluminum cone midbass drivers. Check the speaker project that inspired the Aviatrix Kit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super Bang for buckI built this for my center channel and built the MT version of this (see curts website) for my rear channel speakers. They are super clear. The voicing on the tweeter is amazing. I have the RS aluminum tweeters in another project and I think the silk gets the edge out of these two reference tweeters in my book. The low end is clear and crisp. You'll likely want a sub for home theater though. I love the size. I love the sound. They are almost as good as my Natalie P's but cost less than half as much. I'm going to be picking up another set to make my system 7.1

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A project that covers all the basesDIY research, woodworking, electronics, finishing and finally great sounding speakers. All fun stuff. I had a lot of fun with this first DIY speaker project. It took about 3 weekends to do the project (still need to rub out the piano black finish). Sound great. Clean highs and plenty of low end for me. Had my doubts looking at what to me were smallish woofers, but WoW.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Was not dissapointed!!! First DIY project success!!!So I decided to build these as a first speaker project mainly because they were priced reasonably while not being the cheapest kits available. My goal was value for money.Being my first speaker project and the fact that I designed the boxes so that both the front and rear baffles could be removed for finishing at a later date (MLTL Ver) it took me around 10 hours each to complete the woodwork and another 3 hours each or so to organise crossovers etc. From the moment I first plugged them in I have fallen in love with them and have since ordered another kit including an extra tweeter so that I can complete the surrounds and center channel. I found the low end extension to be quite adequate especially considering I live directly above my neighbours. These can still easily vibrate parts of the living room. Though I am also building a TC Sounds sub.Curt and Wayne have done a great job designing these and I think he has hit the target for a great sounding, affordable and realistic first DIY design that has now got me listening to every piece of music I own over and over. They are not too large and so far have the approval of everyone who has heard them.On a side note I had an inductor in the kit arrive damaged. Contacted PE and they sent a new one as soon as it was in stock no questions asked. Thanks Curt, Wayne and PE.

I have tri Trix fronts need center and surrounds gonna use .23 cu cabinets would this work for me need 8 ohm

Asked by: donfina
This would be similar in tone to the tritrix, but it would not be an 8 ohm load unfortunately. The designer states a 6 ohm load for this.

If I want to use just one woofer and tweeter will I be at 8ohms?

Asked by: donfina
That would indeed make the impedance higher, but the crossover would no longer apply since that was designed with this specific setup in mind.

Asked by: burgs
The Axiatrix is a two way design, we do not recommend adding mids to this design.

MTM vs MLTL for music?  I was wondering on the sound differences between the sealed MTM and the MLTL versions. I listen mainly to jazz, acoustic, and classical music and watch movies. Music would be around 70% of the total usage though. Which would sou

Asked by: Bennie
The basic character and imaging will not really be much different. The biggest difference will be in the bass response. The MLTL will extend quite a bit lower in the bass range. If being used by themselves that may be a consideration.

Crossover write up states for near wall mounting use the 10 & 12.5 ohm in parallel, otherwise use 2 12.5.  I will have 5 of these in a 330 sqft rectangular room near the corners.  Is that "near wall" or am I mistaking the meaning of that?

Asked by: Box Again
Near the wall is referring to the wall that is generally behind the speaker. If they are further out in the room, they need a little more bass reinforcement. Your application should not be a problem, As always I would suggest playing more with placement.

Sorry for the dumb question.  If one of these is used as a center does the crossover need to change at all, or just build them all the same?

Asked by: Box_Jockey
The crossover design for these is suitable for a horizontal placement, so no changes are necessary.
