Wired Home SKRL-14-50 14 AWG OFC Speaker Wire 50 ft.
Is this 100% copper? I.E not coated aluminum. Is it true 14awg wire? I.E is the wire itself 14 awg when stripped, not including the insulation?
Yes, this is 100% OFC stranded copper. Conductor size is 14ga. Insulation should never be part of the gauge sizing of wire.

Can I join this wire with a smaller gauge wire?
I have these 3ohm speakers that I want to connect to the Yahama RX-V373. these speakers will be place somewhere behind the couches in my basement for a surround system. My question is can I connect this 14 gauge wire to the wire that comes out of the back of the 3ohm speakers? Or would this make more than 5% resistance? As I see it the smaller wire comming out of the speakers is the right gauge so if i extend it then it should be okay because the extension is the correct gauge for its lenght. The 14 gauge wire also won't exceed 20 feet for each speaker.Another side question that is'nt related to this product. Would these 3ohm speakers cause a problem wiht the Yamaha RX-373? I understand that they put too much of a load on the amp but it should be okay as long as I don't run it at high volumes (it would be used for TV and music but for up to 6 hrs at a time).
If the total length is under 50', then you don't need to worry about the gauge of wire. 18 would be fine. 14 is typically used for long runs and in-wall construction (types rated for burial or in-wall). I find it odd that your speakers are 3 ohm. Typically speakers are 4 or 8 ohms. In either case, it should not be a problem. Surround sound speakers only operate above 80 hz. Make sure to use the "SMALL" setting when you set up your receiver. Impedance and amp issues arise mostly with woofers at frequencies below 50 hz in general... (Electrostatics and other speakers with transformers are a different story.) have fun.
