Wired Home SKRL-14-50 14 AWG OFC Speaker Wire 50 ft.

Wired Home's SKRL speaker wire is designed to complement any high-end audio system. Oxygen free copper (OFC) is configured in a rope-lay configuration to minimize skin effect which causes high frequency roll-off. Clear, flexible PVC insulation withstands abuse and is rated up to 140°F (60°C). One bare copper conductor and one tinned copper conductor make polarity easy to distinguish even in low light. Also available in 100 and 500 ft. rolls and 10, 12, and 16 AWG.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty good wire!Nice thick insulation, multiple fine strand, thick conductors, great price and way more than needed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It is what it isIt is speaker wire, kind of hard to give a review on something so simple. Polarity is easy to distinguish with the different wire color, it's not well-marked on the insulation. As usual with P-E this is the best price I found for this item.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from No longer 100% copperI'm leaving a 3 star review, not because I feel the cable is inadequate for my needs, but because it is no longer 100% copper as the photos and previous comments portray. The manufacturer has decided to downgrade the cable (not "upgrade") and make the negative conductor out of aluminum now because people were having trouble with polarity. Personally, I think it was to cut cost as the price has remained the same. The 10 gauge cable I bought at the same time is still 100% copper thankfully, and I've had no issues with polarity with an obvious ridge on the sleeve of one of the conductors. Maybe with enough negative feedback they will consider going back to 100% copper again?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great speaker wireFirst off it is real copper, not copper clad aluminum (CCA) like so many companies offer now. Second, it has over 200 strands/per conductor making it very flexible and won't fracture over time with bending. Third, its very shiny, no oxidation within the cable. Forth, conductors separate easily by hand. Fifth, although there is no printing on the cable one side has a slight ridge on the insulation to indicate polarity. All the things that make a speaker cable good, it has.

Can I join this wire with a smaller gauge wire?

I have these 3ohm speakers that I want to connect to the Yahama RX-V373. these speakers will be place somewhere behind the couches in my basement for a surround system. My question is can I connect this 14 gauge wire to the wire that comes out of the back of the 3ohm speakers? Or would this make more than 5% resistance? As I see it the smaller wire comming out of the speakers is the right gauge so if i extend it then it should be okay because the extension is the correct gauge for its lenght. The 14 gauge wire also won't exceed 20 feet for each speaker.Another side question that is'nt related to this product. Would these 3ohm speakers cause a problem wiht the Yamaha RX-373? I understand that they put too much of a load on the amp but it should be okay as long as I don't run it at high volumes (it would be used for TV and music but for up to 6 hrs at a time).

If the total length is under 50', then you don't need to worry about the gauge of wire. 18 would be fine. 14 is typically used for long runs and in-wall construction (types rated for burial or in-wall). I find it odd that your speakers are 3 ohm. Typically speakers are 4 or 8 ohms. In either case, it should not be a problem. Surround sound speakers only operate above 80 hz. Make sure to use the "SMALL" setting when you set up your receiver. Impedance and amp issues arise mostly with woofers at frequencies below 50 hz in general... (Electrostatics and other speakers with transformers are a different story.) have fun.

Is this 100% copper? I.E not coated aluminum. Is it true 14awg wire? I.E is the wire itself 14 awg when stripped, not including the insulation?

Asked by: vwgti
Yes, this is 100% OFC stranded copper. Conductor size is 14ga. Insulation should never be part of the gauge sizing of wire.
