Product Details

Wired Home SKRL-12-50 12 AWG OFC Speaker Wire 50 ft.

Wired Home's SKRL speaker wire is designed to complement any high-end audio system. Oxygen free copper (OFC) is configured in a rope-lay configuration to minimize skin effect which causes high frequency roll-off. Clear, flexible PVC insulation withstands abuse and is rated up to 140°F (60°C). The primary identifying polarity feature for the Wired Home OFC Speaker Cable is a ridge on the outer edge of one conductor. Feeling for the ridge allows you to easily identify the polarity even in low light conditions. Construction: 259 strands x 36 AWG per conductor. Also available in 100 and 500 ft. rolls and 10, 14, and 16 AWG.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great wire! Just one thing...This wire seems to have wonderful conductivity, as OFC is suppose to. None of the reviewers mentioned fake OFC with aluminum underneath, (Like many wire companies are making!) I did a simple scratch-test to find out, and scratching away the copper-looking surface only reveals more copper. I can safely say this is OFC.Many of the reviewers also complained about polarity identification, but this wire has very distinguished wires! You can see in the image, one is a different color than the other, one appearing silvery-pink. Hmm, that lead me to wonder if the other wire might be aluminum! So I took a knife and did a scratch test, since this was obviously different, and copper begun to show. It appears to be an aluminum coating. This made me question—instead of coating an entire strand of wire with aluminum, couldn't they just mark the plastic? Would this coating affect the conductivity of the wire? I'm still not sure about it, the wire definitely has aluminum on it, but it's copper underneath. Maybe this doesn't affect conductivity, seems unlikely.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great Quality Wire - Polarity poorly marked jacketThe wire shown in the Parts Express website makes it very easily to distinguish positive and negative with the stamped black text that I use for the positive (red) connection and then the other obviously for negative (black), however, the text on my spool was almost impossible to see unless I used a flashlight to look for the stamped text to verify which was positive and which one was then negative. This was very frustrating, especially when I'm working in cramped, dark areas to run this wiring and make my connections to my existing speakers.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great wire...but REALLY!!Great wire: heavy duty, yet highly flexible.  Many strands woven nicely.  HOWEVER, on the roll I received (and this has happened before), the writing on the insulation used to determine positive and negative was virtually impossible to read in any lighting.  The print is SO VERY FAINT that if it were not for my good vision, I think I would have had to flip a coin in making a guess.  Looking at the photo on this website, it is very easy to see the clearly written inscription.  Not on my wire though...not by a long shot. Therefore, I disagree with two previous reviews, one poster saying it was very easy to determine the lettering, and another saying the wire made his system sound worse.  The wire is high quality.  In fact, perhaps he reversed the polarity because he could not see the lettering!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from resilant quick installI was able to prepare and attach speaker leads all in one hour.i have two pairs of living room Klipsh's and there was just enough footage. So one spool was enough for my application.about 15 feet of distance from stereo to cabinets. The 12 gauge is all we needed. I replaced my old Monster Cables with this and sounds just as good or better.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Deeply disappointedBought this cable to upgrade my old 18 AWG speaker cables for 2-ch audio speaker setup. The price was a little bit steep but I trusted descriptions of the product and overall positive reviews. The thicker the better (12 vs 18 AWG), I thought. Wrong! The sounds from my speakers using this cable were covered with fog, the volume level was weaker, and the clarity was gone. I thought I'd need some "burn-in" time so I spent days to improve the sound quality. No improvements!I wanted to return this cable but I had already cut 12ft out of the original 50ft. I had a good experience with products from Dayton Audio in the past, but this speaker cable is not.Hope you'll try other brands.
