Weller WES51 Soldering Station
I'm concerned that this unit looks identical, (except for color), to the Stahl unit at half the price. I have the Stahl unit and it has reliability issues. Is this, in fact, the same unit just stamped with a "better" name. Country of origin?
They are different companies and different manufacturers. This model of Weller Soldering Station is currently made in Mexico.

Hello do you sell the replacement cord/iron for the WES51? I have the base unit and that works ok but the actual iron is intermittent.
Unfortunately we do not have the replacement pencils available for this iron.

I have had this soldering station for several years and the iron is now worn out, parts of it have gotten loose and floppy. Anyone know if I can buy just a new iron and keep the power supply that I have?
Weller has a bunch of replacement items, you my find your replacements on-line. PE only carries single solutions for most tools.

will this iron solder 10 gauge braided wire
The answer is yes... The great thing about these soldering stations, is that with the right tip, they regulate to the required temperature for most all electronic soldering. 10Ga braded wire is getting close to the upper limits for these though. If you had to solder anything much larger, say, #8 or #6 solid or stranded copper, I would recommend going to a larger "soldering-gun" type that produces more heat.

what type of tip comes with it and can I buy additional tips?
This soldering iron includes a 1/32" conical tip which can also be purchased separately by using the link included.http://www.parts-express.com//pe/pshowdetl.cfm?&DID=7&partnumber=372-138
