Vifa XT25BG60-04 1" Shielded Dual Ring Radiator Tweeter

The Vifa XT25BG60-04 features a patented dual concentric diaphragm and a unique waveguide center plug that provide an excellent on- and off-axis response. The XT25-type tweeter is acclaimed for its very natural sound with an extremely smooth frequency response extending well beyond the human hearing range. The dual chamber design and absence of ferrofluid results in a low resonance frequency.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice tweeter. use it in my S10..this tweeter sounds great. i have these with sundown neopro 10s and they keep up. smooth and not fatiguing at all for how loud they get.. have around 70 watts or so going to them. you can cross these real low, but i have them kinda high since i play them loud...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent tweeter!!!I used these to replace my blown Infinity EMIT-R tweeters. Out of the box they blew my mids out of the water, but after adjusting the crossover they sound Great!! I am crossing them at 4500 hz. I haven't had a marathon listening session in a while, with these tweets I was up all night. Made the old Infinity's come to life. Very nice job Vifa!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tweeterI have a pair of Royd Heralds that use a 5" woofer and an 18mm modded Vifa tweeter. The highs have always seemed a bit brassy and I found them somewhat fatiguing after extended listening. Replacing the original tweeter with the XT25 has been a revelation.I run them active, crossed at 3500hz.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Tame this mustang for a good rideI used this tweeter in a small bookshelf two way. Sounded harsh and loud at first . Played around with the crossover and reversed the leads on the tweeter and .. ta da ! It came to life ! Balanced sound without being harsh or overbearing . So far I've ran it up to about 20 watts and was pleased it maintained civility . I managed to build a small 2 way bookshelf system that doesn't need a sub using this tweeter . I'm a happy camper .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An Absolute Steal! To me it’s hard to understand the review “Good & Bad” - “I couldn't enjoy music with this tweeter. To my ears it was fatiguing in the highs, it was overly smooth in its lower registers, it was hard to get it to blend properly with my 6-1/2" woofer because of the high crossover point”.To me this Tweeter is an UBELIEVABLE value, to my ears completely accurate and not at all fatiguing. I find that it reveals nuances in the high registers that are simply not available with other tweeters, almost at any cost. However, I must point out that the crossover design is critical – use only the finest capacitors and non- inductive resistors – and don’t forget about the wire. 2500 kHz is a good point to begin at, but make sure you don’t have any sag before that. Also eliminating HF interferences from the mids with the crossover is critical – if you look at manufacturer response curves you will often see that while not specifying frequencies above its usable range many drivers have wildly erratic HF peaks above 10K. This WILL create nasty interferences that will be unpleasant to the ear.Of course all this being said – let’s not forget about room acoustics – bordering walls etc., not to mention perhaps the most important thing of all - the recording itself. I find that most rock music is not particularly well engineered. If you want to try some music that is flawless may I recommend Morph the Cat, by Donald Fagen. He loves to “play around” in the high registers with small triangles and other miniature percussion instruments that produce very ethereal sounds. In practice I have been able to design crossovers that provide almost ideal amplitude normalized and phase response with several mid-bass drivers. The included photo shows an unfinished parabolic MTM design using the XT25BG60-04 and two Dayton RS180 -8s along with the corresponding response curves. You can also see the rear of the XT25 through the port at the rear.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good & BadThis tweeter has ridiculously flat and extended high frequency response. If you like to listen to whales hump you will love this tweeter. In fact, if you want to hear what it's like when two air molecules touch in the infinite vacuum of space, this is you tweeter. All that said, I couldn't enjoy music with this tweeter. To my ears it was fatiguing in the highs, it was overly smooth in it's lower registers, it was hard to get it to blend properly with my 6-1/2" woofer because of the high crossover point, and it lacked the *snap* needed for rock n' roll. I had it crossed at 2.5k and did not like it at all, I estimate this tweeter needs to be crossed in the vicinity of 3.5k.

Isn't the second magnet "in-phase" with the first for increased sensitivity, not "out-of-phase" for purposes of shielding?

Asked by: Juddy Buddy
No, this magnet is out-of-phase for the purposes of shielding.

ADVICE

Can anybody recommend a woofer for this tweeter for a 2 way monitor? Also does anybody have a crossover schematic for this tweeter?
Asked by: Nermal
Nermal hello. Before I can provide you with perspective, it would be imminently helpful, to have some questions clarified. Do you have a specific budget in mind? What application do you intend to deploy these drivers within (2 channel, car audio, etc.......)? With the addition of a 2nd magnet, and increased rear chamber size, there is a reduction of distortion, and increase in sensitivity, both, benefits. If you can answer the stated questions above, I will happily do my best to address your inquiry.

Are there significant differences among the various XT25 variants?

People often talk about how much they like their Vifa XT25's but I see the manufacturer offers several variations, such as the XT25TG30-04, XT25BG60-04, XT25SC90-04, etc. I see the specs (and costs) are not identical, but I'm not sure how significant the differences are. I'm looking for a pair of XT25 tweeters for a car audio project, capable of crossing at ~2,500 Hz. Is there one model that would be better suited than the others for this application? Thanks!
Asked by: Clay
Well, yes, and the answers get very technical very rapidly. In the "Closeout specials" there are a pair of Vifa dome tweeters for $10.10 and $10.00 each respectively. One, BC25SC55-04 I have 4 of has a square frame, the other has a smaller rectangular frame. For a car audio application, I'd suggest either of these from a size and "band-for-the-buck" standpoint, although both would ideally be crossed at about 3000Hz. From the response graphs and from my limited "testing" with them, they'll behave well below that, depending on your exact application. Clay, the audio environment in 99% of the vehicles on the road is abysmal at best. Road noise, wind noise, etc. kills quality sound. Even sitting still, a vehicle has all kinds of strange "nodes" and "reflections" from speakers that can't be placed in even "acceptable" positions. At some point, we reach the "point of diminishing returns"; you spend 5 times the money for a 1% sonic improvement. There is also the very real issue of durability of "home speaker" tweeters in an automotive placement.

Can the outer ring of this tweeter be removed from the inner tweeter by removing three screws near the inner circle?

Asked by: hktran
The faceplate is mounted to the magnet assembly with the 3 screws to which you refer. These screws would appear to be 2mm or 2.5mm hex screws. Also of note is that the faceplate is glued down with a sealant or epoxy of some ilk, so the faceplate can be removed, but I cannot remove one here and leave myself with a product that could be sold as new.
