Usher 8948A 7" Carbon Fiber/Paper Woofer
Usher 8948A 7" Carbon Fiber/Paper Woofer is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from First impression great soundHas a bump in midrange that needs taking care off. Still early in the evaluation I've mounted them with a 6.8uF - 7ohm Zobel. Planning a 10 liter midrange cabinet for the 100-900 Hz range but could be used higher than that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Jaw dropping, near electrostatic panel clarity!I was absolutely blown away by these drivers which are temporarily in a small (0.6 cu ft) JBL bookshelf cabinet. After measurement and compensation using a DEQX, I gave these a listen and was absolutely blown away by how detailed and clean these drivers are. Dig pretty low as well. While maybe not in the Scan Speak revelators or Seas magnesium class, they are spooky revealing and best of all, I can get two of these for the price of one of the Scandy drivers! Which is exactly what I plan to do--use two/side in a cubic foot box and mate with the best planar driver I can afford. For say $600/side in drivers, anticipating I will get near SOTA performance in a monitor sized speaker that should be happy in a variety of listening rooms (of course having a DEQX helps ;-D), offer 93dB efficiency and play as loud (except for deep bass obviously) as I can stand. Only regret is the plane jane appearance and "crushed" dust caps--but that is a compromise I can live with.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from OutstandingI upgraded to the 8948A from a Dayton Reference RS180 and I am a happy happy dude! Outstanding clarity and midbass response. I have these in my F250 paired with the Dayton RS28F tweeters, and they are a matched made in heaven. Do not sleep on these woofers, trust me, just nab them up!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Clean and Crisp SoundI used these in a Sonus Faber Guarneri clone. The sound is unimaginably clean. You will not be let down by these. The mid/vocal range is very natural sounding. Tested these out with a parts express pre assembled 2 way crossover and was very pleasently surprised. I will actually be keeping this setup.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A special driverI have built the arpeggios by Shawn A and have been listening to them for a while. While there is a bit of a BBC dip in this design and i prefer to use the EQ 'smile' a little, I find the system to have some excellent qualities providing quality amplification. I would describe the Usher as open and free flowing and nothing here comes through forced. A big, almost gentle sound with a very neutral and balanced aura. Really a pleasure. If you're not up to building crossovers and don't want to use a proven design though I would avoid it. Expecting a good sound by slapping a cap and inductor will not yield satisfying results. Probably due to lack of BSC. Something to think about for the novice. Sometimes i think about selling them but then realize i would regret it. Probably will never sell these woofers. They're just very nicely built.

Usher 8948A 7" Carbon Fiber/Paper Woofer

Hi Matt, what are the choices in passive radiators and enclosures size please. TIA

Asked by: md4emitters
A good volume and passive for this woofer would be 0.5 cubic feet with one of our 10" Dayton passives. If you add 50 grams to the passive you will have a tuning frequency of 40 Hz.

Use in a car door 2 way?

I'm seriously thinking of using this in a car door application as a 2 way setup with a dynaudio tweet. The set will be actively crossed over using a very capable headunit for this. I have 75w at 8ohms to play with so should be good there. My question is this, my tweet will play down to 2-2.5k pretty easily, will this driver play UP to meet with it easily or am I going to experience any break up in it's upper midrange performace?Any help would be appreciated.thanks in advance to any help...
Asked by: scottygreen1
If you can cross somewhere between 2.5K and 3.5K you should be good to go.
