Tymphany XT25TG30-04 1" Dual Ring Radiator Tweeter

This superb transducer features a patented dual concentric diaphragm and a unique wave guide center plug which provide an excellent on- and off-axis response. The XT25-type tweeter is acclaimed for its very natural sound with an extremely smooth frequency response that extends well beyond the human hearing range. The dual chamber design and absence of ferrofluid results in a low resonance frequency.

Tymphany XT25TG30-04 1" Dual Ring Radiator Tweeter
Tymphany XT25TG30-04 1" Dual Ring Radiator Tweeter is rated 4.7143 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great at any price, in the right applicationFirst, I'll say you need to use the right kind of tweeter in the right place. This is not the tweeter to use in a car door... but in front of your face these are smooth and open. Many can't hear above 20k (my brother can't), but if you can (as I can) a tweeter that drops off above 20k sounds like you have cotton in your ears. I used to run expensive MB Quart titanium domes specifically because they had the high frequency headroom, but once I put these in a center channel speaker, my eyes were opened. I couldn't listen to the titanium domes anymore because these ring-radiators sounded as open without the titanium harshness... so smooth! I swapped out all my $200+ MB Quarts for these $30 Vifas (and put the smaller neodymium versions in my car), and never looked back.Tips:As some have said, ignore the low frequency response rating. This is a universal rule with tweeters because the impedance always peaks at the resonant frequency - you want to cross them out well above this area. If you're a two-way snob, get a woofer that can respond above 2,400, because that's the lowest you can safely run these (I blew one x-ed at 1,850, 24db active)... if your crossover is 6db or 12db go higher. Besides, why would you want to muddy their wonderful highs by trying to push low frequencies? Three-way is a piece of cake. Also as some have said, they're directional, so they belong in a front sound stage - center or front mains... but I wouldn't call that a negative, it's just something to keep in mind for your application. In a car they work best reflecting off your windshield because of the off-axis sensitivity. In a door pillar you would only hear the one closest to you, in a side door only the one far from you... don't use these in those locations! The 1" neodymium version is much smaller, cheaper and can fit just about anywhere. It supposedly has an even lower frequency response, but don't try it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of the best tweeter you can buy for under $200Hello, I've been an audiophile for 25 years and have heard sold and heard all kinds of speakers. I can say that I think this tweeter is one if the most natural, open and resolving tweeters I've heard. I've put them in two pairs of speakers I own / built and I would never even consider using anything else for under the $200 price range. They really are amazing. The speaker pictured is with the Dayton 6" reference woofer crossed over at 3K (12db per octive) and they fill my 18 X 15 room with pinpoint imaging and SPL with no sence of strain from my 125 wpc amplifier.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exact replacementThese tweeters were an exact replacement for myBlue Sky SAT 6.5 speakers, shipped quick, work great. For anyone replacing older Vifa's with the newer model, be aware that they changed the position of the terminals slightly, and some cabinets will require using a round wood file/raspand cutting 2 notches to clear the new terminals. Other than that, a perfect replacement.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dual ringed wonderI needed a tweeter that would cross over low to an 8 inch bass unit but sound clean and extended. With a 2nd order X/O at 1.85 khz the roll off is smooth allowing easy integration and a flat response through X/O.More importantly the design sounds fresh and open with a natural sense of presence - who could ask for more?

Rated 2 out of 5 by from For advanced speakers designers only.Poor off axis responsePoor low frequency responseVery fragile and easily damagedExcellent high frequency detailPoor off axis response - Probably the worst tweeter on the market is this regard. You must take this into account for automotive use. Look at how far down the off axis frequency response is at 10,000hz.Poor low frequency response - Don't let the low resonant frequency and massive magnet fool you. This tweeter has a massive impedance peak at the resonant frequency which makes passive crossover design very difficult. If you have a passive highpass crossover designed for this 4ohm tweeter at 3000hz when the impedance peaks to over 10ohm check what frequency your crossover is now working at. Do not even consider using this in a passive 2-way system as the sound quality becomes very poor at anything above moderate volume.Very fragile and easily damaged - treat these extremely carefully as a light touch can damage them. Below average build quality. Bend the plastic faceplate and you can also break them. The terminals can easily snap off.Excellent high frequency detail - Like a dedicated race car this tweeter is only good at one thing. You will not find a dome tweeter below $200 that will beat the Vifa xt25 in accuracy, detail and overall sound quality. It must be run active with very steep crossover slopes if you want to run 2-way. Running passive stick to a 3-way design with a dedicated 3 or 4inch midrange. The magic happens when you do both, run active and run a dedicated midrange. You will have a setup that can not only provide exceptional high frequency detail, but reach volumes that you would never have thought possible.I have installed this tweeter in over 20 different setups, from 2-way passive to 3-way active and have experience with more than 10 other large format tweeters.

Tymphany XT25TG30-04 1" Dual Ring Radiator Tweeter

I'm using these as replacements in pre-built 2-way 8-ohm networks. Will running an XT25TG30 in series with a 3 or 4-ohm resistor in a passive network built for 8-ohm drivers have any downside other than attenuating the tweeter 3db?

Asked by: JoelGrant

Can i replace factory tweeter with these on a Polk Audio TSI500 floor standing speakers?

is the xt25tg30 as difficult to use as many say it is? such as zaphaudio, needing highish xover and steep slope and LCR network.... on and on?

Asked by: drum
Not that we are aware of. I would look for specifics on why it would be necessary, certainly something beyond subjective listening.
