Tymphany TC9FD18-08 3-1/2" Full Range Paper Cone Woofer
Tymphany TC9FD18-08 3-1/2" Full Range Paper Cone Woofer is rated 4.72 out of 5 by 25.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Value for OEM car speaker replacementI took my Porsche '88 944 turbo to 3 local car stereo shops, to replace the 3" midrange speakers in the door, which had crumbled, part of the 10 speaker OEM system. They all said it couldn't be done, nothing would fit. These fit (almost) perfectly, with just a little (<1/8") trimming of the door speaker panel. Better speaker, great fit, thanks!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good ServiceDelivery was a bit long but I selected standard delivery. I bought this to replace a speaker in an Onkyo tower speaker system. I could not find any specs for the original Onkyo speaker and this was the closest match. The speaker mounting profile was a good match the performance seems OK. It has a smaller magnet than the original and based on the size of the rubber compliance it probably has a shorter throw.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from These Sound GreatBuilt a set of desktop speakers with these, using them as full range drivers and they sound great. I bought some unfinished craft boxes from an online craft store for a couple bucks. And cut a 3" hole in the top with a power drill and a circle cutter attachment. I stained it with some left over stain from a previous project and mounted everything with some brass screws, nuts and washers from Home Depot. I glued the lid on with wood glue and left it clamped overnight. The enclosures are a bit smaller than the ideal volume, but I'm no craftsman, and I don't have the proper tools for making my own box.Combined them with a Lepai LP-2020A+ and they sound great and are LOUD. When testing at home I had the amp turned up a little over half way and it was uncomfortable to be within 5 feet of them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very NICE!I built a 1cf sealed oak cabinet with medium stuffing and built a nice little contour filter for the rise up higher and run them for my PC and they sound very clear and detailed in the mid range, not much base but I knew this going in. Well worth the dukets! Imaging wasn't too bad eather for a small 9$ cone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great in a mini-karlsonator 0.4 scaleBought this product to use in a design created by Gregb and reincarnated by XRK741 over on DIYaudio, wonderful sound quality and has made me rethink my viewpoint of full-range drivers. Yes this can be used without a tweeter in a monitor setup (nearfield) to great success. Nothing but praise for this driver, excellent sound stage, limited bass but what it does put out is on point.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Vifa TC9FD-18-08This small speaker packs leading technology and sounds as good as expected but of course don’t expect spectacular high frequency what you get is a fullranger with an excellent sound and balance for a few bucks and happy to have bought them (way better than my 5” Fostex). I have mounted them on a 4” diameter white drainage PVC coupling adding two lids to close the box making a volume close to 1 liter all tree parts are available in Home Depot or other hardware store for less than $3.00 Dollars. Just open a 3.060” diameter hole on one of the lids for the speaker mounting from the inside and a small hole on the other lid to exit the cable pair add pillow stuffing on the inside and glue both lids to the coupling this makes a sturdy and non-resonant cabinet. I left my boxes with the natural white color of the PVC so no need to paint or do other finishing work. As a finishing touch you may want to make a wooden support for the cylinder cabinets and they will look great!I’m using my pair as a close field PC speaker and if I would ever need lower bass I can connect a “sub”-woofer I have from a PC speaker set BTW the speakers are connected to a small chipamp (TDA7297Q) that I made for the PC which will drive this 8 Ohms speakers up to 5 Watts at less 1% THD. They may not be party speakers as fullrangers but highly recommended for near field application such as explained.Enjoy!

Tymphany TC9FD18-08 3-1/2" Full Range Paper Cone Woofer

Does it have a speaker grill? Or anything suitable. Also is it water-proof?

Asked by: arjunm009
I am sorry there are not any grills available that will fit this. The cone is also paper so it would not be very good in direct weather.

my calculation of ideal vented size at 0.2cubit ft=346cubic inches, cabinet size 11x4x8 comes close, but what size is the vent?, does not say.

Asked by: gychang
I would recommend a port diameter of 1.5" and a length of 1.5" for a tuning frequency of 90 Hz.

Could you tell me if this would be a suitable replacement for  Marantz Imperial 7 mid range driver? If not could you recommend something else? Thanks.

These speakers (Vifa TC9FD) have, what appears to be, a gasket on th face of th frame. Does this mean that they should be surface-mounted to th inside of th front baffle? Does it ever hurt to countersink a speaker to th outer face of a baffle?

Asked by: thcatt
This driver can be front or rear mounted, but there is only a gasket on the top of the frame. Flush mounting a driver like this will provide a smoother response in the upper frequencies, there is nothing wrong with doing this.

Looking to build a sound bar with 12 of these, basically 3 separate boxes that share a common front baffle. Each box will be 0.8cu ft ported out the back of the box with 2” dia. pvc port. Do I tune to the f3, 73hz? What length would the port be?

Asked by: golfntob
A tuning frequency around 80 Hz would be best for this application. You can achieve this with a 3" diameter, 1" long port for each enclosure.

Hi Guys, I am thinking about using this as a car midrange mounted high up in the door, now a 3.5 FR pioneer 2way around 89dB Bass is 88 dB 6.5 Alpine. Will this be loud enough or do I need to say with car 4 ohm drivers? 12-9-14 Thanks!

Asked by: Atl Engineer
It is hard to say. These will be higher and more on axis so the difference in sensitivity might be beneficial here for a better blend. This will have similar sensitivity to other similar sized drivers.
