"I highly recommend this book to anyone entering the difficult but rewarding, area of speaker design. I found it a pleasure to read." Speaker Builder Review 1/99. 'Introduction to Loudspeaker Design' is written for hobbyists, students, technicians and engineers seeking an overview of the technology of loudspeakers. Starting with a brief history of audio developments the book begins by introducing the concepts of frequency, pitch and loudness and proceeds to develop the idea of a loudspeaker as a system. The book covers such topics as loudspeaker design tradeoffs, spatial loading, diffraction loss, cavity effect, crossover design, and enclosure construction. The author is a physicist/audio design engineer with over 20 years experience in the research and development of audio products. His WinSpeakerz® application is widely used throughout the audio industry as a tool for evaluating loudspeakers before they are built. Illustrated, 166 page paperback, copyright: 1998.

True Audio Introduction To Loudspeaker Design Book
True Audio Introduction To Loudspeaker Design Book is rated 3.8333 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Has a few informative things, but not worth $25The first few chapters of the book were more or less a waste, explaining frequency and pitch, what the T/S parameters are, etc. This stuff you can easily find on the web. The later chapters were better, but they were scant on detail.I did like the section that describes how to measure speaker parameters. But overall not worth the price. $25 is a fair hardcover encyclopedia price, not a fair price for a 150 page fluffy paperback.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not for the beginnerThe book is written for those who have already studied loud speaker design and have a good understanding of the principals. Many references are made which are not fully explained to the novice. Near the end a question and answer section makes this point very clear as students ask solutions to rather complicated problems, not simple basics. Great book if you wish to further your understanding, yet not one I recommend to start your journey into loud speaker design.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bookJ.L. Murphy takes lots of the mystery out of speaker design. His explanations are first rate; the book is well organized; and rarely does he leave me in the dark.I have a number of books on building speakers, but if that's what you're up to this book should be in your library in my opinion. Don't be afraid of this book because Murphy is a physicist. This book is written for non-scientists, and he breaks the concepts down very nicely.Highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The BEST speakerbox book out there, periodWhile the book covers more than just boxes, the theory of design (not prints)of ALL the different designs in this book is 2nd to none. It is amazing. The crossover section is also very well done. I would recommend this as a MUST have to anyone who takes this subject seriously. It's written in plain & easy to understand english but the more learned builders will greatly apprciate this book. It is a treasure.
