Topping TP20-MK2 TA2020 Class T Digital Mini Amplifier 25WPC

The Topping TP20-Mark 2 mini amplifier is designed around the sought after Tripath TA2020 amplifier chip, making it extremely efficient while maintaining audiophile-grade, tube-like sound quality; additionally, the TP20-Mark 2 provides a wider soundstage and deeper bass.

This amplifier is ideal for driving small to large-sized loudspeakers, and its size makes it a perfect solution for desktop systems—the TP20-Mark 2 has enough output to rival many large stereo receivers. Machined aluminum construction adds a touch of class and the amp is manufactured using only the highest quality components, including Elna capacitors, Dale resistors, and ALPS volume controls.

Topping TP20-MK2 TA2020 Class T Digital Mini Amplifier 25WPC
Topping TP20-MK2 TA2020 Class T Digital Mini Amplifier 25WPC is rated 4.5455 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Amazing sound quality for the price.I purchased the TP20 for use in a bedroom system, It's powering an old pair of Infinity Interlude IL-10 speakers from a harman/kardon dvd47 source. While the 2 x 13 watt @ 8 ohm rating may seem low, I'm able to achieve normal listening volume in a 12' x 16' room with the volume control at the 9 o'clock position. This amp pairs very well with my speakers so the lack of tone controls on the unit is not an issue for me.Out of the box DC offset measured -2 mV on the left and 11 mV on the right. After approximately 12 hours use it had shifted to 8 mV left and 32 mV right. After opening the unit and adjusting back to zero the amp has held fairly steady, now measuring 1 mV left and 5 mV right after an additional 40 hours of use.One more quick note. Although this amp is built very well, it is very light and moving the power switch up into the off position requires holding the unit down.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mini Size yet Huge PerformanceI was originally intrigued with this newer technology- and so took the plunge-and glad I did. The audio reproduction is terrific, and find I no longer need a tone (treble, bass) control to fuss with. The PARTS EXPRESS Tech felt that my desire to use a pair of 4 ohm British made book shelf speakers would be OK with the Topping Model- discouraging me from considering another similar Class T amp also available from PE- and glad to report he was correct in his assessment. I had already added a 100watt sub-woofer featuring a built-in Class D amp to enhance the low-end- and my resulting sound output is crystal clear with virtually no signs of distortion what-so-ever. When the wife forgets to turn off the Topping even if for days, I am not at all concerned unlike the old days of tube technology trying to heat my living room on a cold winter's day.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Hi Fi ampI'm using a pair of this small amps as a mid and high amps on a 3 way multi-amp system. The sound is open and articulate. I discover details on old recordings I was unaware. The sound is clean, distortion free and very warm. Highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No better souding amp of its size/cost PERIOD!This amp has a transparency and sound stage that is awesome. I'm using it with a WDTV live $100(with WDLXTV software) optical out into a poppulse DAC 707 that was $130 and a pair of 17 year old N.E.A.R. 10M 4" two ways I paid $250 back in the day. Talk about low budget "high end" audio. : ) The amp is super quiet and the silence in recordings sounds "black" if that makes any sense. Won't rock the house but for normal listening levels does the job nicely. I haven't heard the TP21 but may consider one for the headphone output. Overall, very, very happy with this product. Everyone should own one of these.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great little ampThis is a great little amp. I have it hooked up to an Apple Airport Express and good-quality bookshelf speakers ($300/pair, 15-150W, 8 Ohms), and I exclusively use Airplay from my iPhone to play music and podcasts to it in my bedroom. It's small enough that I have it tucked in my nightstand, and with the Airport under the bed, I've got tunes in the bedroom without any noticeable stereo equipment - works great! One thing I really like is that, at least with my setup, there's no white noise hiss from neither the device or my speakers when it's on and music isn't playing... it's virtually silent. It appears to have only modest power, but it's crisp and clean, and perfect for conversational/casual listening, e.g. "typical" listening for most people in most situations. If you're looking to crank this thing up to a level where you'd have to really shout over the music to be heard, you might find it disappointing (this is all based on my setup as described - I've never tested it with other equipment).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice good sounding little ampThis is used as the power in a PC sound system. It does remarkably well in that capacity as a near field amp.

How does this product compare to the Dayton Audio DTA-100a

I'm also considering the DTA-100a, but I really appreciate that the Topping TP-20-MK2 has a separate on-off switch (so I can leave the volume set). This only has 25WPC compared to the DTA-100a at 50WPC - is that comparing apples to apples? How about sound quality? I only need this amp to drive a couple of "nice" (e.g. $300/pair) bookshelf speakers (recommended power 20-125WPC) for my bedroom.

I have very sensitive floor standing horns, so keep that in mind. As far as normal listening levels go, the TP20 is plenty of power for speakers that are even 8ohms and as low as 88dB or so @ 1watt. Anything more sensitive is a bonus. The DTA-100 is definitely more powerful, but it does not sound as good as the TP-20 or TP-21. I have an A/B switcher to compare both amps on the same pair of speakers. Soundstage width is greater with both Topping amps with overall greater definition when compared to the DTA-100. This shouldn't sway someone from buying the DTA-100, it's just that the Topping amps are literally phenominal sounding little things. Note, I've found the DTA-100 to sound significantly better than the DTA-1 or Sonic Impact equivalent.

I would really like to try using this in my car as it's 4 ohm stable and takes a 14 volt intput... would i kill this little guy?

My minimum goal of using it in my car would be to have it powering a set of 5.25" speakers... I'd REALLY like to try running all 4 speakers of that same size but that would mean it would see a 2 ohm load.On the good news side, the signal it would receive would have already been crossed over so they wouldn't have to play sub-woofer requencies which should cut the power requirement a lot.To power it i'd probably just cut the power supply wires and splice in a nice connector (so as not to eliminate the option of using it at home). How bad of an idea is this? I love the size of the thing... the fact that it runs off of a 14volt power supply makes me think it might have been geared towards vehicle installs in the first place... maybe in motor homes or something?

Car amps are generally more durable - I'd stick with them for mobile applications. This may be a great amp (I haven't used one), but I think it's a little esoteric for its own sake...

Can I run two sets of speakers from this amp?

I am setting up an outdoor application where I am running two pairs of speakers with the same source (Apple Airport Express). I have added to two speaker products I am considering. I am looking for the best set up for this and one option was to run both sets of speakers in parrellel off the one amp. Will this be ok and are there other options you can recommend?
Asked by: dmac
Only if both sets are 8-ohm speakers and don't dip too much below that.

Can this amp be bridged?

I like mono amps that I can have one amp for each speaker. This allows me to have very short speaker cables, even have each amp on top/next to each speaker.
Asked by: Tom66789121
I doubt that this amp can be bridged. I suspect from the 14V single ended Power Supply and hte Power rating of the amp that it is already working in Bridged Mode due to the design of the chip.

Can I run this amp directly off a 12v battery?

I am thinking of using this lovely little amp to power bookshelf speakers in an off grid cabin. I have a 12V battery system there; no issues with alternator power spikes/other devices making noise. So given that the power supply is 12V, I am thinking I can just plug this unit right into my 12V dc battery to power. (I am using 12V 9Ah UPS batteries there.)Anyone foresee any issues with this?
Asked by: Off Grid Cabin Guy
Yes this will work fine with any 12-14 VDC power source.
