Product Details

Tectonic Elements TEAX11C005-32/LP 11mm Low Profile Exciter 32 Ohms

Tectonic Elements 11 mm TEAX11C005-32/LP features the same ability to turn nearly any surface into a speaker, only in a more compact low profile package for working with smaller surfaces. This exciter's extremely small size enables audio reproduction in places never imagined: toys, monitors, cabinet doors... even windows!

A neodymium magnet is employed for maximum magnetic flux around the voice coil and increased sensitivity. In turn, this reduces power requirements and makes it possible to use very small audio amplifiers, without sacrificing total output. Its 32-ohm nominal impedance facilitates the use of parallel arrays; four of these exciters in parallel nets to an 8-ohm load and eight in parallel nets to a 4-ohm load making for a highly focused, minimum dispersion sound pattern.

To ensure maximum acoustic energy transfer between the transducer and the surface to which it is attached, 3M adhesive is pre-applied... just peel and stick! Two PCB solder points keep installation and wiring as compact as possible.

Note: An exciter's frequency response and sensitivity are completely dependent on the exciter's designated surface. Thinner, smaller materials will tend to be louder and create a mid/tweeter response. Thicker, larger materials (with multiple exciters) will be slightly quieter but result in a more full-range sound.

Tectonic Elements TEAX11C005-32/LP 11mm Low Profile Exciter 32 Ohms

Has anyone tried these straight out of a laptop headphone output?

It seems as though they would be a good match electronically, and provide a quick "portable speaker" solution under the right circumstances
Asked by: brockero
I did try it, because you asked, and no one else responded. I wasn't expecting much, and I was underwhelmed regardless. I tried various surfaces for the exciter with varying degrees of lackluster performance, none of which would be considered acceptable under normal circumstances, even with the computer and media player cranked "up to eleven." There is output to be heard, but it is *extremely* low output. I suppose if one were designing a set of headphones proper, or wanted a speaker for exceptionally quiet listening, this may do the trick. In any kind of real-world application, I'd suggest using at least a modest amplifier.
