This tweet is rated for 30wrms. .5 amp across 8ohms is only 4 watts. How much peak power will this pass, and how fast will it open?
You can view a full datasheet for this line of polyswitches here:http://datasheet.octopart.com/RXE050-Tyco-Electronics-datasheet-118994.pdf

is this what I need?
i have a pair of Behringer B1220DSP powered cabinets. the RMS power to the horns is 80W, going on my second set of horn diaphragms ($) and would like to add some protection. I like the idea of something that resets automatically, but I like the idea of the light bulb too... Help!
The bulb really does a different job than these. It's resistance increases as the current passing through it reaches the filament's thermal-inertial threshold. In short, it compresses the signal as it gets louder. This polyswitch simply cuts off when it's max current is reached. There are drawbacks to either approach. However both can be used simultaneously, and the goal there is to use a polyswitch with a max current just below the point where the bulb's compressive effects become very noticible. This requires some experimentation to get right, but the results are pretty remarkably and very effective at preventing driver failure.
