TC Sounds Epic 8" DVC Subwoofer
TC Sounds Epic 8" DVC Subwoofer is rated 3.6667 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little subI am very happy with my epic 8. I wanted a sub that very musical with low distortion; this sub is both. I only have around 100 watts pushing it now, and it blends in nicely with my full range speakers up front. Its a lot more than I expected from an 8" sub. Great speaker for the money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from EXACTLY what I was looking for!I couldn't wait to leave this review! I built a new audio system for my car which consisted of a JL Audio 12W6v2-D2 in a sealed box built to JL Specs. Though the sub put out massive bass, it was always too overwhelming for my mids and highs. Yes, the JL was able to rattle my car with ultra low frequencies and yes, it felt good to get a massage while driving. But one thing was missing - that was sound quality! So I decided to nix the JL and try two of these. I took a week and built another box and finally was able to connect everything up last night and immediately, I had a gring from side to side. The bass from these two subs is TIGHT, Hard and Exact! I LOVE these subs.I built a box with .31 sealed on each side and am driving them with a JL Audio HD 600/1 mono amp.I may be reviewing these subs a too early, but the my initial experience is nothing less that wonderful!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fast, Quality BassI've owned this sub for a few months. I bought the TC Sounds Epic 8 because I wanted a sub for my camry that had fast, accurate bass, a low Fs, a small enclosure (i didn't want to sacrifice much trunk space) and i was willing to sacrifice SPL/efficiency to get that. This sub is exactly what i was looking for. I mounted mine in a .45 ft^3 sealed enclosure with plenty of room behind the pole piece and stuffed the sides full of insulation, wired it in parallel (1 ohm load), and am only feeding it 100W RMS. It's more than loud enough to supplement the rock/pop/jazz/eurodance i listen to without over-powering the musicality. if you want to shake your car apart, this isn't the sub for you. if you want high SQ for long car rides with less listening fatigue, this sub won't let you down.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Tough one to figure outI have to admint I was pretty disappointed with this subwoofer. I have been building subwoofer enclosures for various projects for years and know what I'm doing but these subs I just couldnt figure out. My box building software calls out for a tiny tiny ported box that is impossible to build. Over at the PE message boards guys were saying a .5 cubic foot box was the way to go...so thats what I built. I could not model a flat sounding box with the software...every iteration had a deep trough followed by a sharp peak in response. The small ported box sounded awful. The sound was just as peaky and uneven as the computer sugested it would be. The subs are beautifully built. Very nice to look at. They are also crazy power hogs. I had a good clean 600 watts on hand and it just didn't get very loud either. So to recap, they are pretty, heavy, inefficient, Expensive, difficult to model a box for and after all the trouble don't sound that great. I would return them if I could.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Low Extension and Low Distortion not SPLAfter placing two of these units in several test enclosures we found the best results came from a crossfired sealed box with about 1.4 cu ft volume. The units are able to produce 105DB 1w/m at close to full power measured in neutral space. With cabin gain they should produce a bit more. A ported enclosure produced more SPL but sacrificed extension. We deduced that the best application for these was the sealed enclosure. This produced a very nice smooth response from 100hz to well below 20 with very low distortion...Quite a bit like the Seaton Submersive. This is a true audiophile driver. So if you have lots of power and money for several of these and don't mind adding more to get high SPL then this is your driver.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from great sq sub but low spli put two of these in a sealed .75ft box to account for the speaker displacement. sounds great but its just not loud i have a phoenix gold TI 2500.5 and is more than enough power for them. not great spl but awesome response and sounds good i think i just need another two.

TC Sounds Epic 8" DVC Subwoofer

will this woofer work well in a .75 cu ft slot ported enclosure with .17 cu inches of port area tuned @ 35hz?

Asked by: ParkerParker
This will work with that volume and tuning although the port will have to be almost 50" long in order to get a 35 Hz tune.

For  people who have experience with this sub, would  this sub play free air well? My car comes with a 9" but not in a box, I want to replace it and put an amp on it but I need a sub that can play free air. Please respond

Asked by: Jimbass
This sub will work in a free air application but a bit of EQ might be required to get much below about 35 Hz, so it depends on how low you are trying to go with it. You will also want to watch excursion levels at high volumes, especially with any EQ added.

The suggested vented enclosure size is given from your bass box pro calculation, but the vent volume is not given to get to the 30hz.  What vent volume do you suggest?

Asked by: Midwestspeakerguy
Unfortunately to get to 30 Hz with this woofer in a box that small the port would have to be external, it would not be practical to fit inside the enclosure. The best way to get a solid 30 from this is to use a 2 cubic foot box with a 4" diameter, 15" long port. This will tune it to 30 Hz.

Please help

I have two acoustic research towers boxes. My question is, will these woofers work in these boxes. the towers measure outer diameter at "41 1/78" high by "9 1/2" wide "11 1/2" deep, built with "1/2" thick particle board. The boxes are built with two 8 inch woofers. Will this woofer work in these boxes times two each box? If not pleeeese recommend a subwoofer for this application. If you need anymore information about these boxes please let me know. Also I want them in a sealed enclosure. Also can you recommend ahigh quality tweeters for the ones that are in there. I have pictures and hope they can help. I trust all professionals output on this site. I love parts-express because ya'll never led me wrong. I have two epic 12s in my car based on your recommendations and wow. I have one of the best sound systems in the city in a 86 Chevrolet celebrity. I welcome all pro's on this site information. pleeese help.

I am very familiar with AR Towers. These great speakers are among the circa late 70's best. In that era, we didn't have source that went into sub woofer frequency range so no-one designed for a sub woofer. Instead, doubled small diameters woofers delivered very tight transient bass and moved a lot of air.I feel that this speaker installed in pairs in your AR speakers would leave a dip in the175 hertz to 500 hertz range. However you are on the right track with a quality 8" speaker. I have provided a couple below but PE has some great speakers to choose from.If I had a pair of AR Towers, I would do some box designing and add a low pass to the crossover set-up. Then a good 8" woofer and a sub in an issolated vented bottom of the tower. Then a good equilizer to totally shape the sound and enjoy.

How is DC Resistance measured on this driver and is it really two, 2-ohm voice coils?

Few amps can handle a 2-Ohm load so I was going to wire the voice coils in series to get a 4-Ohm load. However, I see that the DC Resistance is 3.7 Ohms which is typical of a 4-Ohm voice coil. How is the DC Resistance being measured? Are these 2-Ohm or 4-Ohm voice coils? -Thanks!
Asked by: Benkev
The parameters for this driver are measured with the coils wired in series. each one is a 2 ohm impedance but would be 4 ohms when combined in that way.

Interested in using this sub in a small room.

1.Would this sub work in a .7cuft box and 2. how much power would the amp need?thanks
Asked by: GaryH
Make sure you have a sealed enclosure and a large amp, meaning POWER. These subs are A+. They remind me of my JL Audio W-8`s 10 inch. They do suck a lot of juice.
