Tang Band W8-1853 8" Neodymium Poly Woofer

Looking to build a reg cab truck box. Will a wedge shape box have an affect on performance? What would the ideal vented volume/ port be if I want to get low tuning instead of high output?

Asked by: Dlight
The shape of the enclosure will not have an affect on performance. In order to get a lower tune I would recommend a volume of 0.5 cubic feet with a 2" diameter, 15" long port for a tuning frequency of 32 Hz.

I know these subs are single voice coil, but can I use them in place of the Dayton DVC neos I have because on of the Daytons is rattling and I need a shallow sub.

Asked by: fishmonger
I would recommend contacting our technical department regarding the rattling woofer. Passive Dayton components like this have a 5 year warranty and it may be something we can simply replace for you.

I want to mount this in the wall, 15in between the studs and 4in depth, so where do I place the crossbraces to make a sealed style box?

WinISD tells me I need almost 23 ft, so I wonder do I need to put 2x4s in the wall? should/can I slot port the sub in the wall?I owned tang band woofers in the past and all of them were small box subs, and this is a shallow mount so it must be a small box sub, not a volume of almost 6 cu ft. winISD tells me. thanks

I'm not sure why you're getting that type of volume. I have the optimal vented volume at about .4 cubic feet for this woofer. With 15" width and 4" depth, your internal height would only need to be about 10" for the volume to work out properly. The vent is very long which is typcial for most Tang Band drivers, but you can run this up the wall and vent out behind a duct near the ceiling if you wanted. Vent size is 3" diameter and 37" long.

I want to verify this driver is a single voice coil driver??? I was hoping for a dual voice coil.

Asked by: deewan
This is a SVC subwoofer 4ohm nominal. A quick glance and it appears to be a DVC, but look closely and you can see that although it has wiring terminals on both sides (like a DVC), each side has only 1 pin, one side is negative, one side is positive.
