Tang Band W4-1805S 4" Neodymium Midrange Driver
Does it make sense to port this midrange?
The Fs/Qes say definitely, but I'm a bit worried about porting a midrange.
I wouldn't do it. It is a midrange driver and porting always is an extra factor making good cabinets. There is reason for porting and that is for improver the low frequencies. For midrange you want as flat a curve you can have and then if needed use equalizer to balance out what is needed. This speaker goes fairly low, but that allows good crossover range not to use it as a low frequency driver, that's what the woofer is for. Even if you use subwoofer it would sound better without porting and if you want better over all sound use active crossover network and taper the lows of somewhere over 100Hz. It will be able to handle the power better that way. Best cut off point would be the one what is optimal for the woofer or subwoofer.

Will this be an equivalent replacement for the mid speaker out of a Cerwin Vega RE Series 30? The back says DXM4.
Unfortunately, we do not have a cross-reference to indicate which speaker(s) would be an "equivalent" replacement for any brand, make, or model. If the physical dimensions and impedance match up with what you're replacing, it should safely fit your needs. If you're not pleased with the performance, we do have a 45-day satisfaction guarantee, no questions asked.
