Tang Band W23-1287SI 2"x3" Driver 4 Ohm
Tang Band W23-1287SI 2"x3" Driver 4 Ohm is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Buy This!Extremely uncolored, incredible speed due to in part, to it's unusually low mass for a driver this size, and an incredibly low resonance for such a small driver. An easy mate for a ribbon tweeter and even it's own treble response is quite good. As low a moving mass as it has, it's mass is too high for articulating treble but I can't think of a driver that would blend with a ribbon tweeter better than this. Also the classic conical coloration of any cone is largely mitigated by it's generous phase plug so it has a sense of being a planar driver. Fantastic.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from mehI bought these to replace the 2 inch peerless aluminum drivers I was using in a portable enclosure with a T-amp, looking for a little extra bass from the increased cone surface. Sure, it's impressive bass for a small driver, but the peerless was quite noticeably clearer and more airy in the treble. Cone break-up and distortion was also more apparent with this driver. Overall I think this was a step down for roughly double the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Big sound from a small speaker!I bought a pair of these speakers to add to my 6.5" component set to fill in a midrange response gap in the current setup. Testing the speaker prior to making it permanent in the system, I've noticed a couple things. First, it sounds AMAZING as a tweeter, highpassed around 10khz. It adds a whole new definition to vocals and guitars. As a full range speaker highpassed at 200hz, it's a pretty solid performer, though it maxes out rather quickly (acceptable for such a small driver). I have a feeling that these things are going to make excellent midrange speakers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from FantasticI used this little beauty with the powerful Dayton RS 7" 4 ohm, and a super-clear "series" styled crossover. This was so easy with such high quality drivers. I was pleasantly surprised, and very surprised indeed! Many of the designs for RS 7" 4 ohm happen to involve a 1.3mh (or so) inductor and this was no different except that both leads from this little Tang Band go to both leads of that inductor (just one inductor total--its a series crossover).I used a quality 10uF cap across the terminals of the RS 7" (in addition to 0.2uF). I used two good 10uF and a Parts Express 3.3uF electrolytic (23uF total) in series to the Tang Band. I also added 4 ohm resistor directly at the Tang Band driver's + terminal (in series with that 23uF). I should probably add a mild zobel across the terminals of the RS 7" but the speaker is really nice as is. That beast was tamed by this little Tang Band! The resulting loudspeaker is as if a high end full range had grille popping enthusiasm. There's not a single muffled note in the music and its surprisingly efficient. I got plenty of clarity for classical to be able to hear all the different instruments in the orchestra and a generous amount of power for dance music (understatement!!! she's a drywall breaker), plus a lush voice for jazz, which is pleasant now that the chords are clear.Kudos to Tang Band for changing impossible to easily done.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Incredible rangeI used these to replace a set of 4x6 speakers and wish I had done it years earlier. The clarity and performance even without a seperate crossover is astounding.Nearly seamless integration with a good set of silk dome tweeters.

Tang Band W23-1287SI 2"x3" Driver 4 Ohm

I would like to use two of these in a small box for a center channel. Since they are full range, could I use them with no crossover? We never play at high volume.

Asked by: Ken1
Yes, you can use these drivers without a crossover. However, if you need them to play loud, and you are using them in a vented box configuration, then you will want to have an active or passive high pass filter set just below the enclosure's tuning frequency to limit cone excursion below the driver's Fs. Most A/V receivers will allow you to set the crossover frequency, or set the speakers to "small" to limit the low frequency content sent to them, and any material lower than that frequency will be sent to the subwoofer.

SPL rating

Hi, The TB spec shows 88db 1W/1M and the PE specs show 88db 2.83V/M. This is a 4 Ohm speaker, so I believe it should be 91db 2.83V/M, right?
Asked by: Geoffrey
Yes, you are correct. Power = v*v/r = 2.83*2.83/4 = 2 watts. 2 watts is 3 dB more than 1 watt, so the driver should be rated 91 dB 2.83V/m.Good catch.
