Product Details

Tang Band T1-1942S Speaker Module Pair

Tang Band's line of patented speaker modules are designed for modern audio applications such as sound bars, desktop multimedia speakers, flat panel tv speakers, and portable audio systems. Don't let Tang Band's diminutive driver modules fool you; each is built with a passive radiator that extends midbass frequency response, allowing these to mate to a subwoofer system quite easily.

The T1-1942S speaker module from Tang Band and is built around a passive radiator assisted, polypropylene-composite 46 mm dome driver. This allows for a very full frequency response from a single, small driver. Advantages of this type of speaker design include the elimination of crossover components in the critical midrange, superb off-axis response due to the use of a small driver (without hot spots), and perfect time-alignment.

Tang Band incorporated mounting tabs and a two-pin wiring harness jack into the T1-1942S to facilitate mounting and amplifier connection to the optional KIT-0041 speaker module mounting kit with amplifier. For custom applications, two polarity-indicated solder points are built onto the driver PCB. Sold in pairs.

Note: Tang Band recommends the use of a 2nd order (-12 dB/octave) 80 Hz high pass filter for the best possible sound. Higher power handling and output is possible through the use of multiple modules.

Tang Band T1-1942S Speaker Module Pair
Tang Band T1-1942S Speaker Module Pair is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Remarkable sound from just a few cubic inchesThese TB modules are amazing for sneaking decent quality audio into unreasonably tight places. If you run them full-range, power handling is low but sound is full. If you add a surface mount tweeter like the HiVi TN28, the sound wakes up nicely. Add a small sub and you have it all. Excellent sound at low levels in weird places. I am a fan.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Small clear modules, but high end falls off after 5kHzI bought these speaker modules for near-field use in a standing desk. They feel solid and have no way to disassemble nondestructively. The tiny connector forced me to resolder the driver itself; but no big deal, I’m clearly not using as the manufacturer intended.I attached graphs of my and the manufacturers measurements. I measured these modules in some unusual mounting positions; see http://thumpworks.com/2013/09/25/tang-band-t1-1942s-speakers/ for lots of commentary. There’s no way that the practical range goes down to 78Hz as claimed, but it’s as good as I was hoping for. I was much more disappointed by the high end. My lame measurements can’t be blamed for the consistent fall off after about 5kHz, which doesn’t look anything like Tang Band’s graph. You might be able to push this speaker to 10kHz at low volumes, but it can’t possibly reach 20kHz.Regardless of the curves, subjectively I’m finding myself quite satisfied. I’ve been listening to them in the suspended position at ear level on either side of my monitor while working for the last two days. In this fixed-position, near field application my impression is similar to wearing a pair of headphones, without managing a cable or getting sweaty ears.

Tang Band T1-1942S Speaker Module Pair

Is there a recommended minimum distance that these should be mounted from sensitive computer components?

Asked by: aftafoya
These use small neodymium magnets that are self shielding. These will not hurt CRT monitors or computer hard drives.

What would be a recommended ~ 20" sound bar enclosure dimention, porting (or not) , dampening and baffeling for a pair of these within the sound bar ?

What class D amp might be a good match with desired fit within the soundbar under the LEDTV ? I will be using the TV's high level headphone out signal as input source. Power supply for the Class D may also be incorporated into the soundbar/ClassD enclosure. Say, 12 vdc @ 2 amp ?
Asked by: Video Professor
These speaker pods are self contained and do not require a separate enclosure so you can make the enclosure as large or small as you would like. Our 2 x 8 watt amplifier module will work well with these and will also work fine with a 12VDC 2A power supply.

Is there a minimum standoff distance for mounting this speaker, or can it be mounted flush?

Asked by: garyp
The manufacture does not state either way, although these are generally measured at the factory as flush mounted. This will provide a smoother top end response regardless.
