Rated 5 out of 5 by from I Never Use Anything ElseI have used nothing but Switchcraft cable plugs for the last 20 years. I make all the cords for the band I play in, and they seem to last forever. I can't remember when I last had to replace one. Very durable product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to install on speaker wireI recently had a buddy of mine solder a couple of these onto speaker wire, which he gave me, for which he no longer had use. Since I had two banana plugs already, I got a pair of speaker cables (maybe 30 ft to 35 ft long) for less than $5 -- I won't complain about that! The Switchcraft 280 was easy to solder onto the speaker wire and it appears very rugged/reliable, so here's hoping the two I purchased will last a long time.

Switchcraft 280 1/4" Mono Plug Nickel

will this jack accept a 9mm round cable out the back??

Asked by: Woody Studio
The cable entry diameter on this connector is about 8mm so a 9mm cable will be a tight fit.

What is the insulating material in the 280? will it hold up in high heat application? For use in wood burning pen.

Asked by: Mike caver
The insulator between the tip rod and plug body is a thin Mylar tube.  The insulating washers in the stack-up near the terminals are PBT and G-10 epoxy glass. The manufacturer spec'd operating temp range is -20C to +65C.  The current rating is 7A. As long as your are in that range, it should work fine.

Is this plug rated for 12 gauge speaker cable?

Asked by: bill at cloudless audio
The opening on the rear will not be large enough to accept most 12 gauge. They do offer one with a larger opening though.http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=093-126
