Sure Electronics AA-AK32151 2x15W Class-D Stereo Power Amp Kit TPA3122

This Class-D stereo audio amplifier kit incorporates the TPA3122D2 power amplifier IC. Class-D designs provide pristine, accurate audio reproduction combined with an authoritative bass punch, while requiring lower input current than conventional Class-AB amplifiers. Completion of this easy-to-assemble kit will result in a fully functional, dual-channel audio amplifier.

The TPA3122 amp IC is capable of producing up to 15 watts per channel (8 ohms @ 28 VDC input power), and the device's efficiency eliminates the need for an external heat sink when playing music. The complete amplifier can be powered by a wide range of 10 VDC to 30 VDC supplies. Included switch can be used to set the gain as 20 dB, 26 dB, 32 dB, or 36 dB. This kit contains through-hole components exclusively, which solder easily into the pre-drilled printed circuit board. Power supply not included. Dimensions: 121.90 L × 91.40 W × 1.60 H (±0.20) mm.

Note: Please match the components listed in the Users Manual (found in the Manual/Resources section on the right hand side) to the Item Number on the printed circuit board.

Sure Electronics AA-AK32151 2x15W Class-D Stereo Power Amp Kit TPA3122
Sure Electronics AA-AK32151 2x15W Class-D Stereo Power Amp Kit TPA3122 is rated 4.3333 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy Enough To Build, But Needs Variable VolumeSweet little kit goes together easily enough and works immediately. I just wish there was a provision for adding a volume control. The two position switch for volume choices leaves a lot to be desired. Otherwise, it works well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very very nice !I wanted an amp for my workshop and did not want to pay too much - bingo. A very nice little amp, easy to put together, sounds awesome... I took me about 1.5 to 2 hours to put together taking my time. Note: there are 4 gain level settings but on the highest setting, there is a bit of noise. I use it at the next to highest level and I am very pleased with the sound. Class D amplification is marvelous.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stereo 15W Class D amplifier kitKit was well organized. No instructions, but very easy to assemble!Sounds FANTASTIC on small Advent speakers!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good Little Project, I had to supply my own chip sThis little amp project went together easily enough. The only regret I have is that the 20-pin socket supplied with the project had lost one of the pins and others were working their way loose.Fortunately, I had some 20-pin sockets so I was able to proceed with the assembly. The amp works well and I am ordering a pre-amp kit to go with it.Then it's off to build a pair of little speakers for the set and I should have a cool little stereo for my boat this summer.Check over your parts when the kit arrives.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing sound, for such a price!I bought this for a study of class D amps, and this only proved the point more that class D are excellent amps, the small amount of current is amazing!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Class D amp kitReally amazing performance for a simple circuit. I'm feeding mine with a mixer to control it and it sounds great. How do they get that chip to put out so much power and not even get warm?

Do I need any kind of transformers?  Or can this board drive speakers directly?

Asked by: pgskala
This is an amplifier and will drive a pair of 8 ohm speakers directly.

How to bridge?

The datasheet states this IC is BTL capable. The schematic omits the 470uF capacitor on the output filter, and the right and left inputs becomes plus and minus. So, to connect in BTL mode:- Do not solder the 470uF capacitor;- RCA signal positive to plus input, GND to minus;- Speaker is connected between both channels positive terminal;- Adjust output filters as needed, per datasheet specs. Is this correct? Thanks!
Asked by: Raphael
I have not reviewed the manual/data sheet. I strongly suggest that you contact Parts Express Technical Department before you attempt to do this. I am confident that if damage results there would not be a warranty.

should a anti pop circuit be added and if so what design is available?

Asked by: jackson1520
I don't think a low power, high efficiency amp would require surge or pop protection when used with full range speakers or proper crossover.

Can this amp be bridged to mono?

I am thinking you can bridge from the R+ to L- and get mono output. Will this have any ill effect?
Asked by: slamgauge
Bridged, to me is a term to describe combining both channels to get double power output in mono mode. From your question it sounds like you want to run mono inputs so that the same source is in each channel. If you wish to bridge outputs for more power, the answer is yes, but the cost to do this properly without risk would be more than buying a 30 watt stereo amp. It involves modification of the transistor rails, added sinks, impedence matching, and a transformer for phasing.Amps that can be bridged have that capability designedin as a feature. Some only require a switch and using the R + L + speaker terminals.

Please suggest project box, binding posts, and power supply.

I'm unfamiliar with power amps but I can solder ok. I don't understand how this fits into a project box with all the inputs and outputs, or how the binding posts attach to the board and then are accessed through the box or if wires go between and the posts are mounted to the box. Budget is flexible. I want it to be solid.
Asked by: Wayne2
Unless you really like working in tight spaces, I recommend a 5 x 7 x 2 inch (roughly) project box. The easiest way to handle input is to run an audio cable into the box to connect to the RCA inputs. I have also soldered Phoenix type connectors to the board (available from Radio Shack as PC Board Connectors (they've never heard of Phoenix) for both inputs, both outputs, and power, since this makes connecting all these things much easier. However, you can solder directly to the board, which is plated through (so no waveguide soldering needed). on all holes. As for output connectors, you can mound individual 5 way connectors right to the board without soldering. To be a bit more professional, the dual 5 way binding posts sold by PE are very nice and easy to mount and connect. However, pinch type connectors work well, too, as do screw type terminal switches; it all depends on how fancy you want to get. I do recomment putting a volume control on the input; any 50-100K Ohm stereo log (audio taper) pot will do, and won't affect the sound (OK, I hear the howls of the ALPS aficionados, BUT my reasonably golden but aged ears hear little or no difference). It sounds like external RCA jack connectors and dual 5 way binding posts will be what you will want.

Sound of silence except popping

After putting it together I tried to fire it up. The LED is lit but there is no sound more than popping from the speakers. I have tried to power it with two 9V in series and with a transformer, but still the same issue. Any takers on what it could be and how to solve it?BTW for those who do not know, there are no instructions with the kit, however, they are readily available at the manufacturer's website.
Asked by: Blackbear
There is perhaps a few causes to your problem.1. Your 2- 9 volt batteries are just at the lower power limit for proper operation. Try to use more power in both volts & current.2 Pumping, a little involved to explain Here. Also a power problem.3 power phase reversed.4. Amp dip switch or not configured or wired properly .I suggest you visit the amps page at PE and down load the pdf manual. Review it and rewire it accordingly. If this does not solve the problem, return it to PE. They have the best tech assistance & service department in the industry.
