Speaker Surround Re-Foam Repair Kit For JBL 122A/128H Woofer
Speaker Surround Re-Foam Repair Kit For JBL 122A/128H Woofer is rated 3.4 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Way less expensive than reconing.I have a JBL speaker that was damaged by a loud pop from a phantom powered mic being unplugged with the system turned up. The speaker was still working but blew pieces of the foam surround all over the floor. I contacted JBL tech support who gave me the name of a authorized repair center that could recone the speaker for almost $300. This led me to search for alternatives and I found this kit,I would give the kit a five star rating if it was easy to install, but that is not really possible, considering the the care and precision work required. With this speaker it actually took an extra set of hands (thanks to my wife) to keep the edge separated from the rim while gluing both sides.I followed the directions and installed the speaker in a repurposed bass guitar cabinet and started jamming. It sounded good until I turned it up and noticed some buzzing on a few notes. I pulled the speaker out and examined it and found the surround had separated on the back side of the speaker. Apparently I hadn't applied enough glue. However, with everything solidly in place it was easy to smear a new layer of glue on the foam to make sure it stuck to the cone this time, especially under the frame supports which was hard to get to the first time around. After drying time I reinstalled the speaker and voila, no buzzing. Just solid bass notes. Very cool.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 260-930 12" JBL speakersI have a pair of JBL 150A speakers that I bought in 1982 and that I had in use for @ 10 years; then they went into storage due to too small a living space. When I got the room recently to set them up again I was bummed out to see that the foam surrounds were rotted out. However I had a friend who knew about refoaming speaker cones and had dealt with Parts Express. With a little prior research I found out that JBL 128H's came in 2 different diameters; both 9 1/2" and 9 3/4". Kit # 260-930 was the one for my speakers. With my friends guidance I refoamed both the drivers and the passive woofers using 2 kits. Following their instructions and using either a sharp utility knife or exacto blade the procedure was pretty straightforward. Slight modification to their instructions were that when I glued the foam surround to the cone I first stretched the surround over the cone then ran a bead of glue onto the foam in the gap created by my finger running just ahead of the glue nozzle and letting it bond immeadiately without first setting up. When the cone had been glued all the way around I then ran a finger from each hand around the perimeter ensuring a good bond. For gluing the surround to the basket after the first glue-up had set I ran a bead around the perimeter of the metal gasket and then used my finger to press the surround into the glue. Then I used @ 60 clothes pins to ever-so-lightly stretch the surround so the its outer edge sealed up to the outer edge of the basket groove. This worked well. Cutting the dust cap, shimming it and regluing the dust cap after the surround had been glued was according to the directions. Thanks for getting my classic JBL's back on line

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Make sure it fitsKit did not fit my 128's. Make sure to call before you order, there are apparently two sizes for the 128 woofer.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Doesn't fit JBL 128HPaid an expensive shipping only to find out the surroundings are smaller than my JBL 128H woofers. They should include the kit dimension info to let customer know whether the kit will fix on their speaker. I ended up bringing my speakers to a local professional service for save time and hassle.
