Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome service and great products!I am sitting here enjoying my 5.1 Surround Sound and thought I would share my experience. I have 4 JBL's around the room and blew one. The speaker was damaged and could not be fixed by replacing the foam. The parts express tech recommended replacing the speaker with a 5 1/4 woofer. Awesome rich sound with a deep base from bookshelf speakers!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun way to revive old speakersI recently found a set of Epicure 5V speakers at the local thrift store. The foam was all gone, but the real wood veneer was in great condition. I picked them up, and then went to Parts Express to get the foam. This was my second foam repair job. The kit was packed extremely well. Directions were great, although I had to adjust them to fit this particular speaker. My cones were honeycomb, not smooth. I had to put down quite a bit of glue to fill in the honeycomb ridges. I also had to constantly run my finger around the foam edge until it became tacky enough to stick. The end result is great, and I had a lot of fun doing it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from easiest way to save a great old pair of speakersthis is the second time i've used one of P-E's surround kits...it just gets easier every time!in this case, a pair of otherwise-perfectly-useful Baby Advent II's were in need of new foam to complete their refurbishment for a repurposed role as the rear channels of a 5.1 system.the included instructions couldn't be more clear--anyone with enough skill to even FIND the Parts-Express website will have NO trouble using these surround kits to bring their beloved old speakers back to life.it's getting harder and harder to find great sounding speakers at an affordable price point--mostly because good crossover design requires time and $$ and few manufacturers are willing to put in the R & D resources without charging an exorbitant price for their efforts. if you can rescue those old 80's era (or earlier...) dorm room speakers from their current 'life sentence' in the rafters of your garage, know that you've just found a GREAT value for the price of one of these easy-to-use kits.don't think... just do it!

Speaker Surround Re-Foam Repair Kit For 6-1/2" Speaker

What do I do about the padding or "gasket" at the top that fits on top of the foam? Does there need to be a new one installed or do I try to reuse the old one?

Asked by: PhilipBeamSr
the gasket should be carefully removed and reused.

how to measure the speaker size for a foam repair kit?

Asked by: stephenwillard
You will want to measure the overall metal frame diameter, as well as the cone diameter in order to see if the kit will work of not. This kit will work with a frame that measures 6 to 6-1/2" and has a cone that is 4-3/4" in diameter. The dust caps are 2-1/2" in diameter.

The cône of my woofer Is 6 niches dia. The métal frame à round it is about 7 inch. Do you have foam kit that would fit?

Asked by: Lapc1
The closest option we have is our general purpose 8" kit which will fit a 6" cone, although the outer lip actually measures about 7-3/4"http://www.parts-express.com/parts-express-speaker-surround-re-foam-repair-kit-for-8-speaker--260-920

I have a Harman/kardon 6.5" dual subs from the rear tailgate of a land rover discovery 2, the AMR5511 part #. The foam rings are dry rotted, since your disclosure says its not intended to be used for subwoofers, what do you offer for the subs in 6.5"?

Asked by: Spendnmny
The foam kits we offer are not intended for high excursion drivers with tall or wide surrounds. These will fit and work with any 6-1/2" driver that has a standard half roll surround and a cone that measures 4-3/4" in diameter.

I recently ordered and received Part # 260-915, a 6 1/2" foam kit that seems to fit my Advent speakers' woofers perfectly. Do you HAVE to replace the dust caps when replacing the foam if the caps are still in great shape? Worried I did it wrong.

Asked by: pross
The main reason to remove the dust cap it is is the only reliable way to align the voice coil in the gap. The dustcap needs to be removed to allow you to shim the coil. Not doing this step risks having a rubbing coil when the glue sets up.
