Speaker Surround Re-Foam Repair Kit For 10" Advent Steel Frame
Speaker Surround Re-Foam Repair Kit For 10" Advent Steel Frame is rated 3.8889 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked for MyGrandpa's Advent Maestro'sThis surround kit comes with everything you need to bring those rotted speaker surrounds backs to life. It was quite a process just to get the woofer out of the cabinet. Some 40 year old glue really can bite you in the butt. After at the scrap, torqueing, and prying, the woofers finally detached from the foam on the cabinet fronts. The surrounds are rather thin like most other reviews said, but this is because the original surrounds are thin. This matches the motor structure and voice coil of the transducer. This was my first time repairing speakers rather than building a set. It is rather annoying having to scrape off every last bit of the old foam surround off the basket, but it comes of rather easy with a nice razorblade.THE KEY TO APPLYING REPLACEMENT SURROUNDS IS TO APPLY GLUE TO THEM AND LET THEM SIT BEFORE ATTACHING THEM TO GET THEM TACKY!!!! I first tried to put them on wet and it was so frustrating. Applying pressure around the surround while they are wet will soak the material and cause it to stretch to a non-perfect circle as well as stick to your fingers. It is the worst when it sticks to your fingers because it sticks to them instead of the basket. Just let the glue tack up and dry for 5 full minutes at least. Don't touch them!!! This will make your life so much easier. After everything is glued and done. You can test in about an hour just to see if it works as very low volumes. Then let them dry overnight and the next day you can blast 50s classics all day long. Save the vintage beauties and replace the surrounds, not the soul.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A well designed kit even for first timerGot one woofer done will do the other this afternoon directions were easy to follow and finished product came out really nice. I like the fact that the original speakers are still in my antique Advent Walnut cabinets. I think i am the second person to have replaced surrounds on these woofers. I'm really excited because I rescued these speakers from a dumpster. What a score all im in is 30 bucks for new surrounds and a few hours of labor. One thing that the instructions say that is very true is that the quality of the finished produce depends entirely on your level of patience and care. Take your time this is a hobby and meant to be relaxing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works great and the price is rightI did the job on two speakers in just over four hours. Everything came out fine even though I was really sloppy with the white glue and was not able to get all the old cement off the speaker baskets. The other reviewers are right; the dust cap is too small. But I successfully got it to stay on, even though it's tilted and doesn't provide a perfect dust seal. I can always go back and put a bead of glue around its perimeter. The glue in my kit was fine. I had about a quarter of the bottle remaining after I was done.I'd forgotten how great these second-generation Advents sound. I've got my bass extension back, and no more rattling and bottoming out. These things sound good as new now. In light of that final outcome, this kit is a bargain, and I highly recommend it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solves the problem. But, I don't prefer the included dust cap, it should be a 3" dust cap (larger than that which was included). But it solves the problem of the old surround turning to dust.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Seems as good as OEM. We'll see how it holds up.The instructions were pretty straightforward. It would've been good if there were some closeup pictures of the actual steps (and maybe notes on typical issues with each step i.e. position of the surround on the basket). Glue had frozen up in shipment. Ordered replacement but found alternative (regular white PVC glue) on speaker build/repair discussion boards. Relatively easy DYI project. So far, sounds good. We'll see how long they hold up.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does the jobI purchased these for the new large advent speakers, the foam is perfect for these. I was not aware that changing the foam means that you must change the dust cap, but you do! Unfortunately the one drawback to this kit is the fact that the dust cap is too small. I don't think this will effect speaker performance, but it does make it tough to get it to look good. Lastly, this is not an afternoon project, it takes several hours between each step so at least it is a one day project. If you are willing to take your time and follow the directions, you will get good results.Overall I would give a recommend, I am just trying to control expectations.
