Product Details

Speaker L-Pad Attenuator 100W Stereo 1" Shaft 8 Ohm

L-pads adjust the relative volume of driver(s)/speaker(s) connected to them by placing added resistance in series. At the same time, a counter-resistance is placed in parallel with the driver(s)/speaker(s) to maintain a constant impedance which allows the original crossover design to be used. L-pads are to be placed in between the amplifier and driver(s)/speaker, or in between the crossover and driver(s)/speaker(s). This particular L-pad is rated at 100 watts RMS, is designed to be used with 8 ohm loads, features a 1" shaft length, and comes with mounting hardware, faceplate, and volume control knob.

Dimensions: 2-1/2" diameter, 2" depth.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from very functional but the lowest levels are unsmoothThe product works well except at the very lowest levels. There the left and right volume levels become unmatched. Aside from that it works very well. It does not consistently keep 8 ohms but never goes lower than 8 ohms.

Speaker L-Pad Attenuator 100W Stereo 1" Shaft 8 Ohm

What happens at 4 ohms?

I need to attenuate a set of 4 ohm monitor speakers to match the other sets of speakers I use for mix references. I have an amp that has A/B sets of outputs, but only one set of level controls. The 4 ohm Behringer C1s are much louder than my Yamahas (which are set to match perfectly with the Alesis M1s driven by another amp). Will the 8 ohm L-pad work with 4 ohm speakers? What will happen? I don't see any 4 ohm L-pads.
Asked by: Bushman
Wire the 8 ohm stereo L-pad in parallel. Simply connect lug 1 to lug 1, lug 2 to lug 2, and lug 3 to lug three. Then wire it as is show in the diagram on the box. This will give you 4 ohms impedance and also a higher power rating.

Can you somehow wire this up to handle 200W RMS, e.g. wiring the two "channels" in parallel or series?

Asked by: kuruption
Due to Ohms Law in parallel the resistance will divide by 2 and become a 4ohm load to the Amplifier. It will come out to 5.33 ohms total on the Amplifier at full counter-clockwise rotation. It will double power rating, but not stabilize 8 0hms while not hurting anything.
