Speaker L-Pad Attenuator 100W Mono 1" Shaft 8 Ohm

L-pads adjust the relative volume of drivers connected to them by placing added resistance in series. At the same time, a counter-resistance is placed in parallel with the driver to maintain a constant impedance which allows the original crossover design to be used. L-pads are to be placed in between the amplifier and speaker, or in between the crossover and driver. This particular L-pad is rated at 100 watts RMS, is designed to be used with 8 ohm loads, features a 1" shaft length, and comes with mounting hardware and faceplate.

Dimensions: 2-1/2" diameter, 1" depth.

Note: See the Tech Drawings tab for wiring instructions.

Speaker L-Pad Attenuator 100W Mono 1" Shaft 8 Ohm
Speaker L-Pad Attenuator 100W Mono 1" Shaft 8 Ohm is rated 4.64 out of 5 by 25.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect fit, works smoothly, high quality.I purchased these to replace tweeter controls in the cross-overs of a pair of ESS AMT 10b speakers. The Heils are now back to sounding as good as new. Very clean/clear sound.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid performanceWired these up/installed to control a high output midrange in my home 3-way speaker system. Very heavy duty construction and simply installation. I used a 3/8" drill bit and a deep well socket to tighten the nut. The speaker is acoustically sealed and there was no air leak. The L-pad is basically a rheostat type varactor and works as advertised. Speakers impedance changes when voltages are induced...best to get this L-pad set and then check the impedance at the speaker wire inputs if you are concerned about load imbalances. Overall: Great product, fast delivery, easy install, works.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from L padHi , I am very very satisfied with my purchase , I have installed them and getting exactly what I hoped to achive . I have two old power speakers that I wanted to convert to "monitors (floor monitors ) for a Country band . I was hoping to connect them to the new power speakers and be able to control the audio at the monitors ,which I can now do . I would also like to thank the lady who served me on the phone as she was very helpful and very proffesionnal at her post. Also ,the quality of these L-pads are excellent . Again , thank you ...Roger

Rated 5 out of 5 by from If you need a rugged, wirewound rheostat . . .Not much to add to the positive reviews, except that rheostats are hard to find, and this can be used as an 8 Ohm (terminals 2 and 3) or 40 Ohm (terminals 2 and 1) rheostat in a pinch.Oh, and as an L-pad, if the impedance variation decried by another reviewer is a concern for you, read the comment about it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy Install - Works PerfectI used these in a simple speaker build where the tweeters were much more efficient than the woofers. I found to be a very simple install: drill a hole, push them through, tighten with the supplied nut, hook them up, push the knob on. Maybe they changed the packaging from some earlier reviews? I don't know, but the ones I received had the wiring diagram right on the box. I installed one each in the rear of 3/4" MDF speakers. The "audio level" plate is a little cheezy looking, but didn't matter to me as they are not seen. These are a much easier solution than trying to re-work crossovers - I highly recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Heavy dutyInstallation scematic is on the box, but overall dimension should be available because this part is large. Terminals are numbered 1-3 thank you.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Perfect for older speakers too.Not sure why the two on here didn't just pull up the tech drawing on this page which shows even a four year old how to connect these.A bit high in price though.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good ReplacementI bought this to replace a very, very old volume control that was producing to much static. This works fine. You will have to download the wiring diagram from the description page. One does not come with the part.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I NeededUsed to control the tweeters installed in a Bass guitar amp. The amp is used for an electronic drum set. This pad helped to balance the tweeters so they were not overpowering the lows. My only concern was no wiring diagram in the box, But I went on line to the product description and there it was, so I was very pleased.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Grossly inaccurateThis device does *not* maintain a constant impedance like an L-pad should. With an 8ohm resistive speaker load, the impedance seen by the amplifier will vary between 8ohm and approximately 12ohm depending on the setting. You can easily see this by measuring the resistance across the pins and doing the math.It seems like the two internal coil variable resistors are linear, instead of having the correct curve for maintaining constant impedance. This provides a very crude approximation.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Got the Job Done for SureOnly issue I have is that the installation instructions promised with the order did not get packed. Had to google LPads to see how to wire up. Otherwise fast service and as promised.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked BrilliantlyNot too hard to install, after you get your head around how the 3 prongs work. I had to stare at the diagram a little while. I used it on my tweeter to pad down its harseness.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Effective attenuationThey work really well, built like Sherman Tanks.you need some space inside your box for these little devils... they are definitely CHUNKY!Well worth the money, smooth operation.I put mine in the rear of the cabinet, as the look of them is not all that pleasing when you're veneering with expensive bubinga or mottled mahogany!

Speaker L-Pad Attenuator 100W Mono 1" Shaft 8 Ohm

Can these be used as quick and easy attenuators for guitar amps?

Asked by: jrdworak
These are deisgned to be wired in line with the speaker itself, so if that is where you intend on installing it that will be fine as long as you don't exceed its rated power.

Why these over the 15W?

I only want to lower that upper two speakers of my cabinet. I have a 100 watt amp going to my 3-way system and want to attenuate the mid and tweeter. Could I use the 15 Watt L-Pads for that?
Asked by: tunaman
The midrange and tweeter will get a smaller percentage of the total power so it is certainly acceptable to use a lower power l pad in that application. a 50 watt, or even 15 watt should be fine for most users.

Can I use the 'L' pads on Piezzo's without changing the finale impedance of the total box?

Asked by: TJ Hechtle
Yes although in order for this to work there has to be an 8 ohm resistor in parallel with the piezo tweeter.

Why capacitors?

What would be achieved by having identical caps of whatever value on either side of the l-pad? Would this be an attempt to control the voltage to the tweeter like a voltage divider?
Asked by: audioantique
That would cause it to behave like a tone control circuit.

all your l pads a 8 ohm??

I was going to use a bandpass crossover and a high pass on a neo 8 and neo 3 I wanted to put a lpad in line on the tweeter which is 4 ohms. Do you think it would be fine to use this 8 ohm lpad in my 4 ohm xover and speaker??
Asked by: puffah
For 4 ohm applications, use an 8 ohm stereo l-pad with jumpers between the sets of terminals 1, 2, and 3.

Can I use this to reduce the volume of a 2-way cab?

I have a cabinet setup that is less than ideal (from previous installers) where one cabinet is pointed directly at the main mic placement. I cannot move the mic placement, but if I can attenuate a single cabinet then I might be able to bring the mic up to usable volumes. Also there is not an individual amp dedicated to each cabinet.
Asked by: Brandonmmmmm
Is the Cabinet an 8 ohm load?Is the amplifier driving it putting out less than 100 watts? If the answer to both questions is yes then the answer to your question should be yes. I'm no expert but I've heard others say that you shouldn't test the power handling on these things, so 50 watts from your amp might be preferable to 100 watts.

How many db's of attenuation will these provide? Thanks.

Asked by: Doctor
When used with an 8-ohm load, you should expect about 6 dB of attenuation.
