Rated 3 out of 5 by from QA issuesIt is cheap enough that if they don't work, you don't get too upset. I bought a driver and an amp, so the shipping was free and i added this spike set on top of my purchase. It felt ok, but i could not screw the spike all the way into the insert nut. The spike, it seemed, was very slightly bent. I could thread the hex nut all the way in, but not into the insert nut. Strangely this was case with all 4 of them. I took them to the nearest hardware store, and i could thread a bolt into the insert nut without issues.Anyways, returning it would not really solve any issues as i'm not sure if the ones i'll get will be any better. I went ahead with the installation, and my subwoofer sits a little higher than i would've liked, but other than me, no one else seems to notice it.Like others have mentioned, i too had to go and buy a hex key for this.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from You get what you pay for...As mentioned in other reviews, the insert portion of the spikes is very fragile and I too had one come apart while screwing it into Baltic Birch. Unfortunately it was 90% inserted and it was difficult removing the damaged insert.I was finally able to figure out a way to do this quickly and without damaging the inserts.Use a proper metric hex wrench to start the insert into your project. Then, use the spike and locking nut, along with a ratchet and socket, to lock the nut against the insert and then screw the entire assembly into the project. Then, remove the spike as needed. This procedure worked very well for 12 inserts and after figuring this out I had no problems. The inserts are indeed poorly designed, but then again you aren't paying much for them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Why all the fuss?!?When I was trying to see how to install these, I read all the other reviews and got realy scared; but I screwed the cups in last night in 15 minutes! I did find a 10mm hex wrench to borrow, and did go in-and-out to keep the shavings from accumulating, but I did not have to use much force at all. I drilled 1/2 inch holes in 3/4 MDF and used a q-tip to liberally apply glue before tightenning them in for keeps, but I am very pleased with the install.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent productI bought these for my Sunfire Truwsubwoofer MkII. I saw another reviewer complaining about the install - perhaps it would help to include instructions of any kind on how to installe them. It is easy though: you drill a hole slightly smaller than the size of the socket, then use an allen wrench to screw it in. Works fine if you use the appropriate tool. Recommended - my sub is now tightly coupled to the floor.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good enough...The spikes themselves are great - sharp enough that I've torn my knuckle open at least once, and long enough to adjust the pitch of the speaker front to back to some degree. But the inserts, which are cheap, die-cast steel - cheap and die-cast always being a bad combination - are very poor quality. The thread pitch isn't quite the same as the spike itself, and there's no wrench flats, so you're left using channel-locks or similar pliers to turn them into place. (**Hint hint, PE! Wrench flats would be dynamite...**) Worse, though they take a 10mm allen wrench quite precisely, the flanges around the allen-wrench socket are far too thin, and the insert tends to snap at the points toward the end of installation. I managed to get one of eight installed properly before this happened; all the rest had to have the jagged edges of the allen-wrench flats torn off with pliers and filed smooth. This isn't a huge deal, maybe, but it would be nice to be able to install them as intended.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product but install takes time! When the Dayton 1/2 spikes are installed they work great and last a long time. This is the second time I used this spikes I added a set on my DCM TF-v10.0's 10 years ago and they are still on there well and no rust or any sign of age! They do there job period. Now the down side you have too take some time installing them because if you don't they will break! The Dayton threaded inserts grab so much wood when installing them they bind the insert if you keep threading the insert they will beak off!!! You have too back them in and out like ten times each one too clean the threads of the insert of wood and the hole too! If you don't do this they will beak! So a 5 min to 10 min install for each speaker cabinet goes too 1 hour each speaker cabinet! So these are not a time saver for install! Take your time when installing them!!! Good product when installed right and you take there time.

Speaker Cabinet 1/2" Super Toe Spike Set 4 Pcs.

Given the chance that I may damage one of the threading nuts (out of the 12 I plan to install), where can I purchase a few replacements? Or better yet, what size are the nuts such that I might buy better quality replacements. Thanks...

Asked by: BACH
The thread diameter and spacing is 3/8"-16 TPI.
