Product Details

Sonic Barrier Lightweight Vinyl Sound Damping Sheet 27" x 40"

The Sonic Barrier VE-1 was formulated for maximum damping efficiency over a broad frequency and temperature range. It is made of a mineral filled visco-elastic polymer that transforms vibrational energy into thermal energy (low level heat). It provides twice the damping of asphalt based product without the weight and odor. The VE-1 has a leather grain finish and is cosmetically pleasing, so it can be used on front speaker baffles and other applications that are visible to the eye.

The VE-1 damping sheet's flexible nature enables it to mold and conform to irregular surfaces. It can be cut easily using a standard razor knife or scissors. The pressure sensitive adhesive makes peel and stick installations easy and will adhere to most surfaces including metal, wood, and fiberglass. Excellent flame resistance, can handle continuous temperatures up to 250° F and meets UL94V-O. Thickness: .050". 27" x 40" sheet.

Home Theater: Can be used as a constrained layer between two sheets of drywall (sheetrock) to reduce wall resonance and control noise and vibration in home theater and Hi Fi listening rooms. Because VE-1 is odorless, it will not stink up your whole house!

Speaker Building: Perfect for lining the interior of your speaker cabinet. It will dramatically reduce vibration energy that would normally be stored in the walls of the cabinet. Can be used as a constrained layer between two pieces of wood. The VE-1 also makes excellent gaskets! Use between the driver and front baffle to absorb vibrations.

Automotive: You can reduce interior noise levels 3-10 dB by applying VE-1 damping sheets to the door panels, firewall, floor pan, trunk lid, or any interior sheet metal panel. Top performers in car audio competitions know that a reduction of 3 dB in the interior noise level is like doubling your effective amplifier power! Because VE-1 is lightweight (about half of asphalt sheets), it will not weigh down your automobile!

Sonic Barrier Lightweight Vinyl Sound Damping Sheet 27" x 40"
Sonic Barrier Lightweight Vinyl Sound Damping Sheet 27" x 40" is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 16.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Damp your car roof for harder-hitting bassI recently upgraded my car stereo, buying a high-end subwoofer and amplifier. I listened to them in my house, and the subwoofer hit very hard, with each bass note and drum beat tight and separate from the others. But when I put it in my Ford Explorer SUV, the bass turned boomy and mushy, and it sounded like I had a cheap junky speaker instead of a good one.I traced the problem to the roof of the vehicle, which resonated like a bass drum if I struck it with my fist lightly. It needed to be damped.Because the area was so large, basically the entire 27" x 40" sheet, I used two layers of the samping sheet to try to tame the resonance. It worked quite well, reducing the boom and also quieting the ride since every bump did not make the roof ring like before. The attached pictures show recordings I made before and after damping. The time scale is the same for both pictures. I later added stiffeners to the roof panel, which raised the resonant frequency to where the damping material was even more effective (not shown). If your car panels go "boom" when you thump them, then you need this damping material to get the best performance from your subwoofer. I applied it to a 50 degree surface, after warming the damping material indoors in the sun for a while. I had absolutely no trouble in getting it to smooth out and stick tightly.Highly recommended!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Light weight sound dampingThis is a very nice product. I used it as a second layer on top of a single layer of Rammat. The lower weight and lack of oder is great. The adhesive is very good. I laid the sheet on the driveway in the sun to make the material pliable. The price is low as well. I plan to use this product alone on the next install I perform.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice for lightweight dampingFirst this is the same product PE sells in 10 x 13 sheets. It's fairly stiff when cold but if you get it warm it's fairly easy to work with. It provides a more finished appearance than most damping sheets which are often ugly, have printing on them, etc. It's also fairly cheap per square foot. It has no odor. The downside is it doesn't damp as well as the thicker, softer products like V-MAX or the better grades of Dynamat. But it's a good compromise for the price and appearance.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works great!using to dampen vibration and noise on my spa siding. Works better than I expected. Lowered decibels by a bunch, eliminated the rattling of the pickets, and adds some R value to boot! Way worth the $$$.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It's not foam!I completely disagree with girolamous's review. Please inform yourself about this product. First of all, it's not a foam. It's a dense, rubber like material. If you are using this in an automotive application, you'll need to clean the metal parts with rubbing alcohol. Use a heat gun and a roller to really make the stuff conform to surfaces. Lastly, enjoy a much quieter vehicle that doesn't stink!
