Product Details

Sonic Barrier Lightweight Vinyl Sound Damping Sheet 10" x 13"

The Sonic Barrier VE-1 was formulated for maximum damping efficiency over a broad frequency and temperature range. It is made of a mineral-filled visco-elastic polymer that transforms vibrational energy into thermal energy (low level heat). It provides twice the damping of asphalt based product, without the weight and odor. The VE-1 has a leather grain finish and is cosmetically pleasing, so it can be used on front speaker baffles and other applications that are visible to the eye.

The flexible nature of the VE-1 damping sheets enables it to mold and conform to irregular surfaces. It can be cut easily using a standard razor knife or scissors. The pressure sensitive adhesive makes peel and stick installations easy and will adhere to most surfaces including metal, wood, and fiberglass. Excellent flame resistance, can handle continuous temperatures up to 250° F and meets UL94V-O. Thickness: .050". Sold in 10" x 13" sheets.

Home Theater: Can be used as a constrained layer between two sheets of drywall (sheetrock) to reduce wall resonance and control noise and vibration in home theater and Hi Fi listening rooms. Because VE-1 is odorless, it will not stink up your whole house!

Speaker Building: Perfect for lining the interior of your speaker cabinet. It will dramatically reduce vibration energy that would normally be stored in the walls of the cabinet. Can be used as a constrained layer between two pieces of wood. The VE-1 also makes excellent gaskets! Use between the driver and front baffle to absorb vibrations.

Automotive: You can reduce interior noise levels 3-10 dB by applying VE-1 damping sheets to the door panels, firewall, floor pan, trunk lid, or any interior sheet metal panel. Top performers in car audio competitions know that a reduction of 3 dB in the interior noise level is like doubling your effective amplifier power! Because VE-1 is lightweight (about half of asphalt sheets), it will not weigh down your automobile!

Sonic Barrier Lightweight Vinyl Sound Damping Sheet 10" x 13" is rated 4.55 out of 5 by 20.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from NO BRAINERI have purchased quite a few different products for damping purposes, and have found quite a variety of quality to cost ratio. In short, this product is easy to work with, is not oil based(which is a real pain should you have to remove it) and it works just fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing how a few cut up sheets dampened car door resonancesUsed a mere two 10" by 13" sheets per front door on my 2002 Sentra, cut into pieces and applied in strategic locations to dampen some terrible resonances I was getting at 55-65Hz and at 110-125Hz. As others have said, the adhesive is very good (if you prep area with rubbing alcohol), they are thin and light in weight, there is no smell or mess, and the sheets are quite pliable (at least on a warm day). I was amazed at the result, the speakers (for now, Alpine SPS 610 coax in MDF spacers on ~50W of amp, active HP@12db/oct@120Hz) sound much fuller and the doors and finishers don't vibrate nearly as much on midbass; also the doors have a more authoritative "thunk" on closing instead of a cheap-sounding "rattle". Next step will be to get a couple of the 27" x 40" sheets and go over the entire inner door (effectively replacing the clear plastic weathershield), hopefully to further reduce resonances, perhaps shield out some more road noise, and maybe kinda sorta seal these toy car doors a little bit better. Might even lead me to some drivers that can truly go down to 80Hz on the front stage to better blend with the Dayton RS265-HF 10" sub in the trunk...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love ItHave used this product many times over the years. Always line my speaker cabinets inside with it. Dampens the cabinet walls nicely and does not take up much volume inside. Have also used it for a gasket on front baffles. Adhesive works great and sticks to about anything. Use it around the house for other things to deaden squeeks and vibration. Although I like asphalt sheets, these are lighter with less volume and no smell.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pleasantly surprisedUsed it in a recording studio to quieten down a metal musical instrument stand that was resonating. It worked really well! I wasn't sure what to think of lightweight vinyl as a sound dampening material, but the reviews were good and the price was attractive, so I thought I'd give it a try. The sheets were easy to cut into the shapes that I needed, and it stuck to the metal like crazy. The whole process was very neat and looked professional, and no bad smell! I want to thank the other reviewers who helped me decide to get this stuff... and thank you Parts Express for supplying it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Questionable Damping, Decent Vibration Absorption, CheapI really question how well it actually damps. I get the impression that it is slightly better than spray on stuff, which really isn't saying much, but it does have a huge advantage of not smelling for days upon application. It does absorb vibrations quite adequately, however, and for its price, ease of application, and even ease of removal, it's not like I'm losing anything.I considered rating it only three stars, but since I plan on trying out more for my next project, I apparently do find enough merit in it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Used on a HTPC CaseDampened sound considerably but did not generate internal case heat like the Sonicbarrier product that I ordered along with it (I'm not bashing the SB, it just ran hotter in my application). Easy to use, easy to shape, and adhesive is strong.
