Sherwood RX-4503 Stereo Receiver
Sherwood RX-4503 Stereo Receiver is rated 4.75 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great and simpleI needed a receiver from my workshop and this is great for my needs. I needed to power four speakers and a feed to a powered subwoofer. The sound is very good and the features are simple. I was not looking to match my high end home equipment and this has plenty of power and sound quality. I was skeptical since it is a fraction of the cost of higher end units. This is not surround sound, but wasn't looking for that. I am very satisfied so far.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good value.Ample power to power Large Advents.Overall good receiver.I like the virtual speaker function, works well in a small room. You must have a DVD player with 6 channel out.The receiver has 100 rms /channel. Enough power to drive 2 large Advents.Has Bluetooth capabilities. In conclusion, this receiver is well made, easy to use, perfect for a small room where surround sound is too much. The virtual speaker amenity works great in place of 5.1surround.I was pleasantly surprised with the overall sound and quality of this receiver.Good value!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful amp!How can you go wrong for $139? This Sherwood amp/tuner lived up to expectations. Definitely truth in advertising. I'm driving a pair of two-ways with Vifa 8" woofers and dome tweeters, speakers that I built myself and formerly driven by a Sony amp that bit the dust after a dozen hard years. The Sherwood stepped right in to adequately fill the Sony's shoes, without missing a beat, pun intended. I haven't utilized the subwoofer output yet as the room I'm in is serviced adequately by the pair of two-ways, but it is a feature I'm going to try. The only bummer is I can't find a bluetooth dongle to fit the proprietary BT input, as it seems Sherwood has discontinued theirs. All in all, a good deal and a pretty solid piece of hardware, not a home theatre amp, but it wasn't ever intended for that purpose anyway. Would definitely recomend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I can't praise this receiver enoughFor the low price point it does everything it needs to do, and does it superbly. I have a couple of tiny bookshelf speakers made from PE components couple with a pair of Tymphany LAT-250 subs (if you missed out on these little $25 gems...sorry!) and the sound quality is excellent.I would also recommend purchasing the optional Bluetooth plug-and-play device you can dock on the front of the receiver that allows you to stream music from your iPhone.I bought this unit one year ago and I am very pleased with my purchase.

Sherwood RX-4503 Stereo Receiver

8Ω speakers?

Is it okay to use this with a pair of 8Ω speakers (110W each)?
Asked by: Bakken
Yes, this receiver is rated for 8Ω speakers, and supports 100W per channel. You might not get quite the power output if you intend to turn it up to extreme levels, but you'd be hard pressed to notice any difference (nor would those listening levels be comfortable in any home application).

stereo modes, too?

hi, does this 5.1 unit also have a 2 channel stereo more and/or a 5 channel stereo mode? (for listening to CD's or whatever that are not recorded in mutli-channel)thanks.
Asked by: Emzdogz
The Sherwood RX-4503 is a stereo receiver with no digital coaxial or optical input. This receiver does feature 5.1 channel RCA inputs and stereo inputs, but does not have terminals for 5.1 speakers. The idea is that it takes the 5.1 channel input from a DVD/Blu-Ray player and 'virtualizes' it to 2 or 2.1 speakers. Also, keep in mind that since there are no optical or digital inputs, to even use this feature your DVD/Blu-Ray Player would have to have 5.1 channel RCA outputs (most players only have stereo RCA and optical and digital coaxial output for 5.1 channel audio).Sherwood does make a few receivers that PE carries for a few dollars more that support 5.1 speakers and have true digital decoding, so I would recommend looking at one of those for 5.1. If you are looking for stereo you could go with the Sherwood RX-4105 PE 252-125.Frankly it baffles me as to why this receiver would be available in 2011. 1996 is more like it...
