Selenium 8PW3-SLF 8" Driver 8 Ohm
Selenium 8PW3-SLF 8" Driver 8 Ohm is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Little MonsterI have used these in PA's, Monitors, Guitar Amps, etc. I noticed on the driver specs that PE recommends a vented F3 @ 43Hz cabinet 4.03 cubic feet interior displacement. That seems very oversized for a single 8" speaker... I will let you know how it turns out. See Photo

Rated 4 out of 5 by from "Item recieved not as pictured?"Purchased 6ea of these drivers, was very surprised when I checked the shipment...ALL the drivers were not as pictured? I have been a customer for @ 20 years, and this is a first for me, with Parts Express. All 6 Items received have "SELENIUM" printed boldly across the "dust cap?" Item pictured as offered when ordered did not, it was "satin black" in appearance, with no lettering? The current pictures show the dust cap to be satin black, as well? Nowhere was this mentioned in the description of this product,( a bit "tacky" in overall appearance) for the intended use of these drivers. This would have otherwise been a 5-STAR REVIEW. However, with ALL that being said, for the price a "very easy fix!" Items were received fast, and packaged very well as usual, and worked great!! Thanks for continuing to offer all the great deals. From just one of your many loyal customers. Parts Express is always my #1 go to stop-n-shop, for all of my electronic project / supply needs!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great as a Mid-Range DriverAt first I was a bit skeptical using this driver in a hi-fi speaker as opposed to a guitar amp, which most of the other reviews indicated. It was an experiment that worked to my advantage. I inherited a set of AR-93Q's from a friend. These are a 3way system with a front firing tweeter and midrange and 2 side firing woofers. The tweeters I replaced with components I purchased here and the midrange drivers needed replaced as well. I'm not a stickler for keeping things original. I like to change things up so I chose these Seleniums as replacements for the 8" mid drivers. They fit nicely, only needing to redrill screw holes into the enclosure to mate up. The sound is fantastic. Using the native crossover still, the points being at 350hz and 2Khz, these drivers do an incredible job blending with the other components. For anyone looking for a replacement driver for the AR-93Q's, this one is a lock.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little performerI put this together with a home built tube amplifier in a 12x12x12 cabinet for playing bass guitar. Makes a great practice machine!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from wow and wowReplaced 2 speakers in a Peavey Studio Chorus 70 guitar amp from 1982 and it came alive. The highs are incredibly articulate without being ice picky and the lows shake anything nearby that will move. The mids are sweat and musical and the lows rumble in a good way. I even play my acoustic guitar through this amp now and it sounds awesome. I believe the frequency response is probably pretty accurate. By it now you wont be disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Used in guitar amp: nice!Replaced quacky stock speaker in Peavey ValveKing Royal 8. Much improved! Open back cabinet; complemented a replacement output transformer, too. Can hadnle anything the amp delivers. Wire a piezo tweeter in parallel if you have concerns for high end. Recommended.

"hammytechnoid" said good as midrange drive in some ARs; have a Kef C55 cabinet: .82 cu ft internal volume: can make it ported or sealed: OK for this JBL in this cabinet? optimum cabinet is .5 to .75, so I may be OK; realize this is a pro unit....

This driver will play quite loud but it will severely lack in the bass department. There are better options for this type of application, I would recommend the Dayton Series II 8" if you are looking for a rugged, relatively high sensitivity 8" driver that will still produce the lows. This will also work well in that volume.

Would this be a good replacement for a JBL 4301B?

Asked by: Mik jepstone
I would not recommend this woofer for that application. If the originals cannot be repaired (recommended), the best option would be our Dayton Series II 8" woofers which you can see below. You will have to verify the recess and cutout dimensions for the original unless you can modify the cabinet.

Once these are sold out, will there be another similar driver offered by Selenium to replace this model?  I may need more of these in the future.

Asked by: Clintock
These have been discontinued by Selenium and the have no provided a replacement for them yet. I cannot say weather there will be one available or not, but we have many other 8" drivers that could work.

Would four of these used for Bass guitar be better in a sealed cabinet or a ported one? Would the volume of the cabinet be 4 times the suggested of 1.69 cu ft for a sealed box or some other volume?

Asked by: funkengrooven
This really isn't the best option for a bass guitar application. The sealed enclosure is very large and still only has an F3 around 90 Hz. I would recommend looking for a different option if you really want to use four 8" drivers, a single 15" will be better on all accounts. A better 8" option would be the Dayton PA200-8. This will reach lower in a smaller vented box, but still be limited with overall output.

Would this speaker work well for a boston acoustic a60 speaker replacement? Cabinet is 11x7x17 (quick measurements)

Asked by: Justinraz
This would actually not be a good choice for that speaker. The Goldwood below would work much better for the same price.
