QSC GX3 Power Amplifier 300 Watts/ch at 8 ohms

QSC designers, headed by Pat Quilter, have optimized output and appearance while reducing raw material cost and weight. GX Series amplifiers are ideal for professional entertainers who require maximum performance and portability on a limited budget. It's all here – dramatic styling, easy hookup and adjustments, excellent audio quality and QSC reliability.

The hallmarks of the QSC brand - professional audio quality, meticulous engineering, precision manufacturing and long-term reliability - are all intrinsic to GX. Add contemporary styling, multiple input/output options, light weight, and advanced protection circuitry, and the GX Series clearly represents real value - something everyone can use.

GX amplifiers deliver just the right amount of power to the most popular speakers used by entertainers. Typically, loudspeaker manufacturers recommend an amplifier with power output equal to the speaker's Program (Music) Power rating or two times (2 x) the Continuous (RMS) Power rating.

Technical Notes
The GX3 uses the latest evolution of the QSC Grounded Collector output system, for optimum cooling of the critical power transistors. A true Class B biasing system combines maximum thermal efficiency with excellent audio performance.

This amplifier uses premium toroidal power transformers for reliable "mid-weight" performance. A variable-speed fan moves air crosswise through the amplifier, drawing cool air in over the power transformer, through the fan, and then over the heat sink. This keeps the transformer cool and allows a full size heat sink to fit in a down-sized chassis.

As always, GX Series amplifiers are fully protected from the usual hazards of the trade, ensuring stable performance and long life.

GuardRail protection delivers full peak power while preventing detrimental overloads. During excessive clipping, or extreme overheating, GuardRail reduces gain just enough to preserve the integrity of the music, protect the speakers and keep the audience excited, without unprofessional distortion levels or shutdowns.

Subwoofer/Satellite Crossover
A subwoofer reduces strain on the full-range speaker, allowing it to play louder, or letting a smaller speaker do the same job. The GX Series supports this mode with a Crossover switch that splits the full-range input entering Ch 1, sending 20 Hz -100 Hz to the sub (Ch 1) and 100 Hz - 20 kHz to the top box (Ch 2). The front panel gain controls balance the sub and top box, while GuardRail optimizes peak power into the sub and top individually, for greater musical impact and dynamic range. QSC GX3 Power Amplifier 300 Watts/ch at 8 ohms
QSC GX3 Power Amplifier 300 Watts/ch at 8 ohms is rated 4.6667 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Favorite AmpYes this amp will drive two 350watt @ 8ohm speakers, whether two 175 watt @ 8ohm or one 500watt @ 4ohm.The amplifier cabinet contains two amplifiers that will put out 350watts @ 8 ohm. Higher wattage's can be obtained by bridging the the two sides together.Read the whole description. This is my favorite amplifier I use in almost all the installations I do.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good amp but fan too loud for some installationsI installed this amp and it performed admirably, the only problem is in a quiet setting the fan noise is noticeable. The fan is not thermally controlled, it is always running. Well, maybe it does get faster if you really push the amp (I wouldn't know), but even sitting there doing nothing the fan is whirring away.So if there is a lot of background noise in your situation you will be fine, but if you are installing this in a small church or other very quiet setting the fan noise may be a problem depending on where you place the amp. In a very quiet environment you can hear this amp from across the room.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Power to spare!Used to power my monitors in the studio. Way more than I need, but room to grow with. Clean, strong, lots of headroom. Excellent $'s/watt . Would recommend to anyone working a medium sized venue. Wish I could bridge it for running my bass gear on live gigs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not review, but a questionok, i have a question, ive been looking at this amp for a while now, i have some 15 inch cerwin vega's These speakers are rated at 400 watts RMS with a frequency response of 26Hz-20kHz and a sensitivity of 102 dB @ 2.83V and im just wondering is this the best amp for me to be able to finally enjoy the maximum bass these beauty's can produce?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An excellent and reliable high-power amplifierThis QSC GX3 power amplifier is used to drive a variety of loads, including the difficult-to-drive AR-LSTs, ADS L1590s and stacked Bose 901 systems, sometime running on a continuous basis for hours on end at high-output power. I also used the amplifier for loudspeaker testing, and it works well for this requirement, too. On music-program material, the Class B amp runs effortlessly at high power, and it runs cool with the fairly quiet variable-speed fan. The output power up to clipping is very clean and undistorted, there is plenty of headroom (+2dB), and the unit is amazingly compact to produce so much clean power (up to 400+ watts/channel into 4 ohms). I use this amp in conjuction with a similar Crown unit, and both amplifiers seem to be indestructible. The build quality on QSC amps is very high, and QSC offers an extended warranty on their amps -- even when used professionally -- that is hard to beat. I highly recommend this amplifier! --ARHPG

is this brigible

Asked by: basslover201
According the owner's manual, which I found a link to from this product page, this amp CANNOT be bridged. They specifically state DO NOT connect one speaker to both channels. It is a 2 channel only amplifier.

does it have volume control?

how would i control the volume on this unit? I want to power my RTR 1530's towers. i plan to connect this amplifier to the tv, but the tv volume only works for the speaker on the tv.
Asked by: hugo
You need to see if your TV has a variable volume output; some do, some don't. You'll have to troll through your on-screen menu or Owner's manual to confirm. If you do then you should be fine; cut the amp up to a high gain (but not clipping) level, then control the output to it via your TV's remove. If your TV has headphone output then this should work as well; you'll need an adapter cable to transfer the signal from the headphone jack to whatever input format the amp has (RCA/ 1/4" jacks, etc.)

would it be able to run only to only 1 channel into a 4 ohm sub ?

Asked by: RowdyBlue
Sure. This is quite an amp. It is NOT bridgeable however. So running one channel would work, but best to run 2 subs or a DVC sub if you are building/rebuilding a box.

Can anyone tell me if this amp would work for a steel guitar amp?

What controls does it have like volume, tone and others? Thanks
Asked by: Steeler
Not knowing the specific requirements of steel guitar amp I can't say for a certainty, however, QSC makes a fine amp and while I don't have first hand experience with this line or model of QSC amplifier, I have never had a bad experience with QSC either. High quality sound and reliable performance.

how loud is the fan?

im wanting to buy two of these to run two subs and two full range speakers for home use off my computer. how noticeable is the fan noise. would I be happier with two crown xls 1000's?. I really like the power ratings and the good reviews of the qsc but am a little concerned about the fan noise
Asked by: bigboomer
typically ambient room noise will be around 45 DB. The fan in this QSC power amplifier probably would be lower than ambient room noise in terms of volume I believe that would not be noticeable if you were playing your subs and your upper and lower mid cabinets I'm anything at the normal listening level you would not hear the fans at all in my o,pinion the QSC power amp how are equal the crown amps you mentioned in quality and definitely a lower price point I have a great deal with friends with QSC and I found to be a reputable product. Parts Express is a reputable company if you by chance would find the fan noises to excessive for your needs I'm sure they would allow you to return the power amp with the original box and all packing.

Is this amp enough?

I am looking at this amp to power 4 8ohm subwoofers. All are rated at 250 watts rms. I will be wiring 2 subs parallel on each channel. Will this amp be enough to power these subs without being overworked? Or should I spend a little more and get the GX5?
Asked by: mx racer
If you require full amp output to achieve your desired spl, then yes the amps life will be shortenedHowever, if at 75% output you spl is acceptable then normal life should be expected. QSC is an awesome p
