Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very impressive for the price!Bought a pair of these, the Goldwood ported subwoofer boxes, 2(ea) Goldwood tweeters in series, 2 4uF caps, and 1/4 cups and sockets for a $120. I needed to get a flatter curve on my EQ to save watts, which it did. 4 times louder than the SA 10 in. monitors I had paired with my old EV 1502s. At only $60 each, you could probably build a fairly decent array with these. I also tried them alone with a 250 wpc McIntosh. Not bad at all. A tiny bit of distortion somewhere. Probably the frames. But still, quite acceptable for PA designed speakers. Also, the sensitivity is amazing for the price. AND all shipped well and fast delivery!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Replacements for House SpeakersThis may be a "no, no", but I bought these to replace some blown Curtis-Mathes speakers. I am using these as reference monitors in my home studio and I needed something that could handle the power put out by my amp.The description listed these as able to handle 200watts, but the speakers have "300 watts" printed on them. These speakers are clear and loud and I am VERY pleased with my purchase. For the price, I'm blown away.I am sure that "purists" and "true audiophiles" will say that these suck (or whatever), but as a man on a budget who needed what he needed at a time when these were in my range....BUY THESE...THEY WORK AND THEY SOUND GREAT.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sounds Good through a Custom CabI built two cabs and put 2 of these 10"s, and 2 of the StudioPro 8"s in each of them. I play guitar through an effects pedal, eq, and power amp to these speakers and really dig the way it sounds. The eq was all I needed to dial it in. For the money ($60 per cab), I feel like I got a good deal.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from not a good replacement for Kustom speakersI bought a pair of these to replace the 10" drivers in my KC10's and they dont even come close. Too much bass and you will cook them. you would be better off using a car audio woofer as they can handle the distortion of the Kustom head better

Would these work in a sealed box 26x16x11 connected to a 130watt stereo chorus amp?

Asked by: bigbabee
Yes these will work in that volume. I would recommend some sort of high pass filter to help prevent excursion damage at higher power levels.

Will these be OK in a sealed cab, or do I really need to port it?

Asked by: The Kirbster
It sounds, by the reviewers' complaints, that these would work best in a ported or open cabinet. However, when in doubt, add a port tube (or two) in your cabinet and dampen (plug it up) with foam or even a wad of cloth to see if it sounds better. Adjust accordingly. I find this works best.

What size speaker cab with 290-262 for 4 string bass guitar?

I already own a pair of these speakers (290-262). I intend to build a pair of 1x10 cabs for them, to play bass guitar thru. I need suggestions on cabinet volume, porting info, ANY info to make these as good as they can be for reproducing the 4 string bass guitar's frequency range (aprox. 28 Hz thru 2kHz)
Asked by: The Kirbster
It really depends on if you want tight crisp response, or long drawn out rumbling bass. For tight crisp bass I would recommend a smaller box, between 1.0-1.5 cubic feet, not ported, with a light coating of polyfill in the box. I would think that a 14 deep, by 15 tall, by 15 wide exterior dimension using 3/4 inch mdf would give you good crisp reproduction, but beware of overpowering this box, distortion will be very noticeable. For lower lows you would want to go with a bigger box, such as 24 tall, by 15 deep, by 15 wide exterior dimension with the woofer mounted in the upper half of the box with two 3 inch ports, 12 inches deep, in the lower corner front of the box. Again with this box use polyfill, but be very generous with it in this box. Don't pack it in, but a nice fluffy will. I hope that this helps. Cheers!
