Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worth the PurchaseI am one who designs and build speakers. I feel it's my reason on earth. The Pyle PSN1167 is nice. I have 5 set up as an extra "Super-tweeter" for my other speaker that I put together; featuring an 18" woofer, 8" midrange, and 12"W x 4"H Piezo Tweeter Horn. The item that has the Pyle PSN1167 helps with the high frequencies that I need when I do parties of all kind. And with the price that I paid for them, it is great. I'm getting 'pats on the back' for the way they sound.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from PYLE 400W PIEZO TWEETERSPYLE 400W Piezo TweetersThree Pyle 400W piezo tweeters were tested at 25KHz. The sonic output was not tested, only the power handling ability. The crossover network and a bank of three tweeters (each with 10 ohms) were driven by a 25KHz continuous sine wave at amplitude +/- 18V or 36V p-p. The final voltage across the tweeters was +/-7V or 14Vp-p. Each tweeter had a 10-ohm series resistor. The current draw for the crossover and three tweeters was 45mA rms. Therefore the total power draw by the crossover and tweeters was 0.045A x 36V = 1.6 Watts. Each individual tweeter drew about 0.53Watts.If the driving waveform was increased above +/-18V, the tweeters' piezo elements broke down and the current shot up dangerously, heating the fragile piezo film inside the tweeters. However the piezo elements did not seem damaged by the breakdown, and things returned to the normal 45mA current draw after the drive voltage was reduced. (The supply-current for this test was strictly limited to 300mA for all three tweeters.)ConclusionThese tweeters should have a series resistor of about 50 ohms and a back-to-back 7V zener diode across the tweeter terminals to limit the max voltage to +/-7V. An additional 0.3uF to 1uF Non-Polarized capacitor in series with the 50 ohms will limit the amplifier load-current when the zeners are firing. Then the tweeters will survive in the harsh auto audio environment. When the tweeters are breaking down they make make a sound like a cricket chirping. If this happens, drop the power to let them cool for a moment and use a lower power setting. The tweeters will deliver 0.5 Watts CW at 25KHz, and if protected, will survive overdrive and keep on working. If they are overdriven too long without protection, they may lose polarization and the output may diminish. The 7V zeners will prevent this.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It's a piezoSounds like every other Piezo. The trick is to make sure that you couple it with something capable of reaching 10K with a high SPL. A really bright 8" works well. Crossover around 10K unless you like SSSS.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good valueI installed these into a Alesis keyboard amp. They sound better than the original horn. Nice fix for the price!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from ReviewThese were absolutely horrible. They shouldnt even bother making them because they are that horrible. Even crossed over at 10kHz they were horrible

any good?

Has anyone used these and had any success with it?
Asked by: Dtkeith
you get what you pay for kid. double or triple up with these things as they have limited sensitivity. for the money, why not? dont expect output or accuracy of a good compression driver, these are piezos. good thing is they dont really blow when you put the power on them, and no need for filtering
