Pyle PLM3 Lavalier Uni-Directional Microphone
Will it work?
I need to mic a drumset and only have $50 to spend on mics. Will I be able to mic the toms and snare?
I would NOT advise this. Most likely the loud volume and high SPL levels will distort the sound you get out of the microphone.Even if you did use this mic, what system would you use to get the sound into your computer? You would need a mixer with stereo panning to get a left and right signal. Or at the least a mono mixer to combine the mic signals together. Since the microphone is a low level signal you need a pre-amp, a line level 1/4" input will not work. Because the microphone is an electret condenser microphone it requires phantom power to operate. This is not the same type as a mixer (+48V) puts out. And lastly you still need a analog to digital converter to get the signal into your computer. The only real solution for $50 is to get a USB condenser microphone like the Behringer C-1U which Parts Express sells. This provides an all in one solution that combines a quality microphone with a decent digital interface and onboard phantom power.Any professional wired microphone for recording should have an XLR connector.
