PRV Audio D250Ph-S 1" Phenolic Horn Driver 8 Ohm 1-3/8"-18 TPI

PRV Audio's D250Ph-S midrange phenolic compression driver is designed for use as a low-distortion mid in a three-way speaker cabinet, but can also serve as a PA announcement driver for gymnasiums and small venues due to its ability to capture the essence of voice and high 107 dB sensitivity.

High power handling and high sensitivity is achieved using a 2" diameter voice coil that is wound on a Kapton® former. A 1" exit and standard 1-3/8"-18 TPI threading allows the D250Ph-S to work as a replacement driver for many popular horns that play down to 500 Hz. The compact size and 2.99 pound weight allows for use where support brackets aren't available. Many high output, SPL car audio enthusiasts have gravitated to PRV Audio's D250Ph-S for it's high output and smooth vocal reinforcement.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality productVery clean sound, love the fact you can replace diaphragms and not have to buy new speaker.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good sound at a reasonable price.I used this to replace a driver on an old University PA horn. It sounds so much better than the original, the frequency response is much broader. This is not a waterproof unit, so don't recommend for outdoor use (ours is indoors).

Rated 1 out of 5 by from TOTAL JUNKI bought 4 of these to try on a project. All 4 sounded completely different with very different output levels. the levels varied well more than 10dB with the freq response being an octave or more apart.I "dug into" them a little bit more and found that there is nothing to center the diaphragm on the voice coil gap and that you really have to "fine tune" the alignment to get something that is usable.I did not even bother with doing any more testing as to the suitability for my project since they were so VERY inconsistent. If you don't mind "hand tuning" these they might be OK, but not for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Used as mid in a three wayEveryone touting 2 way systems for compression drivers needs to try a three way with this--you need a large waveguide - I bought the special purchase Community waveguide also from Parts Express (large format) and they sound fantastic! I have tried the pyramid tw44 tweeter cutting in at about 5KHZ and now am using a pyramid tw47tweeter on the top cutting in at about 9KHZ (there is a serious hump with that tweeter which the first order slope cuts down nicely to extend response to about 5K (all passive)---tw44 is actually the cheaper and better tweeter!; there is no need to put an inductor on this driver as its frequency response drops like a rock between 4 and 5KHZ; not having an inductor in the signal really, really improves the sound quality--I also use the electronic crossover available from pure vinyl and I have tried everything up to 6th order slopes (sounds a bit dry with the higher slopes) - to put it bluntly nothing sounds better than a first order slope between the woofer and this mid (my woofer is an old cerwin vega 12" that is properly tuned to about 35HZ in the LS12 enclosure which has been completely modified (double boxed with maple to form a 1.5" box- one of the ports was sealed otherwise bass is way to boomy) - I will eventually post a picture - Now try and guess what I am using for amplification but two Lepai T amps each channel in parallel and each driving the mid and the tweeter--sounds unbelievable - (I have very good amps both solid state and tubes -) I feel no need to change these!

Is it exactly the same driver that Selenium D250-X? I noticed that several PRV models look identical to several Selenium models but for a lower price. Is it the same company?

Asked by: wankel
Hello. to answer your question, PRV and Selenium are not the same company. Selenium was bought by the Harman Group ( an American company) and on the last 7 years many engineers and sales people from Selenium joined PRV AUDIO but they are not the same company. About the Price, it has allot to do with market positioning and distribution channels, Selenium now belongs to a very large company with public capital. PRV is a private owned company.

Are they water proof because i want to put it on the outside of my car in the grillĀ

Asked by: erni24
This driver is not specifically waterproof so I would not recommend it for that type of application. You might want to look at something like below, set to the 16 ohm bypass.http://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-d1075t-75w-horn-driver-with-70v-transformer--300-190

what is the matching horn for this

Asked by: kannant
This is measured in the spec sheet using the WG14-25 horn.http://www.parts-express.com/prv-audio-wg-14-25-1-45-x-45-abs-waveguide-1-3-8-18--294-2841This model is out of stock until the 14th, however the Selenium HL14-25 will do the same thing and is currently in stock.http://www.parts-express.com/selenium-hl14-25-1-exponential-horn-45x45-1-3-8-18-tpi--264-315

Can you get these in 16-Ohm versions?

Leslie speaker cabinets require 16-ohm horn and woofer in order to keep the crossover point at 800 Hz. Thanks!
Asked by: Feeshy
Unfortunately these phenolic horn drivers are only available in 8 ohm models.
