Product Details

PRV Audio 6MB300SEAL 6-1/2" Sealed Back Midbass Midrange Woofer 8 Ohm

A sealed-back basket design on PRV Audio's 6MB300SEAL 6-1/2" midbass/midrange woofer protects it from the air swept by larger drivers in a shared cabinet. This results in decreased driver distortion, increased durability, and increased midbass punch from 250 to 500 Hz and power handling over the open-back 6MB200.

A thick, yet light and rigid paper cone, 1.5" voice coil, durable spider suspension, and a woven surround supported by a sturdy steel basket. All of this ensures its ability to withstand long hours of operation making this driver a popular speaker choice amongst high output car audio enthusiasts, especially when you consider the extra moisture protection offered by the sealed-back design.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Accurate specs; very loud! After testing these midranges, I found that the 1-watt SPL, frequency response, and the RMS wattage rating are all accurate. The sound quality is excellent, even with the most demanding computer-generated music, which is why I'm giving this midrange five stars. The only problem I had was that part of the basket (as seen in the attached photo) was bent when I took it out of the box. I didn't feel like exchanging the driver, so I just used a hammer to straighten it out, which worked out very well.So what is this driver capable of? If you use a first-order high-pass filter at roughly 1000 hertz, then you'll be able to produce sound pressure levels high enough for a high school dance in a full-sized gymnasium, but nothing larger than that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Decent sealed midI used these to replace some Dayton RS52AN-8's that met an unfortunate demise as I was putting together my new active crossover setup. Couldn't be happier that I made that mistake now that they're installed. The midrange is much fuller with a good spl match to my other components and I have more flexibility with the crossover points. I'm still waiting on a couple more items and will be measuring response with the new Dayton EMM-6 Mic I picked up recently to EQ the speakers and room with my miniDSP2x8 xo.There weren't many reviews for these speakers when I purchased them but the specs matched my needs quite well and using sealed back units again made the process of replacement easy - not needing to seal off another part of the enclosure for a mid driver of this size. Nice construction and the workmanship seems good.I don't know about the rest of PRV's line but if the specs match your needs I wouldn't hesitate on recommending this one.

What size of hole do I need to cut to fit it I'm properly

Asked by: Timbo111
Thank you for your interest in PRV Audio products. I have verified that the cutout of 5.82" listed on the specifications sheet (listed under Manuals/Resources) and on the Mounting Information (listed under Product Details) is correct if front mounted onto a baffle. Some customers choose to rear mount this speaker. If that is what you would like to do, please cut a 5-15/16" hole (5.9375").

I am building a three way system using the above driver and a Dayton Audio PA310-8 12" Pro Woofer. I am looking for a recommended cross frequency, this mid can reach low. Can frequencies overlap, what would the effect be?

Asked by: Tomane
While the Fs for this driver is around 300 Hz, I would not recommend crossing it any lower than about 500 Hz due to a high Q bump in the low end response which can be seen on the PRV spec sheet. It is common for frequencies to overlap from one driver to another.

I am rebuilding some infinity 3000's, would this make a good mid for home use? I like how the driver is sealed, I won't have to build a mid enclosure in the existing box. What are some considerations when using pro speakers vs. hf? Thanks!

Asked by: Tomane
There aren't any specific considerations to pay attention to when using pro drivers over home drivers. These will work the same way, only provide more output capability. A sealed back midrange like this will have a pretty bit bottom end peak that will need to be taken care of in the crossover, but crossing it a little higher (around say 6-700 Hz) will help with this a lot.
