Product Details

PRV Audio 15W700 15" High Power PA Woofer 8 Ohm

The PRV Audio 15W700 15" professional audio woofer is designed to be a perfect drop-in replacement for many popular PA speaker cabinets and works equally well in ported or sealed cabinets. A ribbed paper cone is employed to give you the classic tone associated with many high-end speakers.

Moving to the motor, you'll find features not normally associated with other drivers at this price point: a 3" diameter voice coil with a Kapton® former and 5.5 mm of Xmax, high sensitivity, and a fairly low free-air resonance that allows this driver to play down below 40 Hertz. A specially designed resin was been applied to the woven spider for increased longevity, and the cloth accordion surround ensures smooth, accurate sound.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Above ExpectationsLet me start by saying this...  After first trying and loving the 6" midbass drivers, I received a call from Parts Express and was offered a free pair of PRV 8" neo-drivers.  I thought to myself PERFECT TIMING!  This began the design of a PRV 3way masterpiece at a fair price point for a build I had been planning.  The D280Ti-S, is a well built horn driver which I found works very well with "apologies to PRV" Selenium's HC23-25 Horn.  A simple -3db attenuation in the crossover build perfectly suited the horn with PRV's 8" neo-driver.  After finally coupling the PRV 15w700, PRV 8" neo and PRV D280 into a 7cu.ft. sealed enclosure crossed over at 500/2.5k, I found that my purchase and freebie were definitely well worth the effort.  To date, I have had bass players, guitarists, keyboardists, vocalists, and music all played through the built speakers with nothing but compliments given.  I give kudos to the PRV line for the quality put into every product purchased thus far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great replacement for 2x15 cabinetsI have a pair of PV215 and replaced the 15" woofer by the 15W700 from PRV AUDIO. Speakers sound clear on the voice and keep up with the power handling.great replacement speaker for any dual 15" or single 15" cabinet out there.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from PRV 15w700My design goal, when purchasing this driver, was to build a pair of large two-way cabinets with good efficiency, fidelity and bandwidth; I have been very pleased with the end result. These drivers achieve a -3db point of roughly 26 hz in a ported 10 cubic foot cabinet and still provide good dynamic range. They are capable of substantial excursion on bass passages without any notable break-up in the mid frequencies, and when pushed too hard, onset of distortion is gradual. These drivers are very dynamic with good efficiency and VERY smooth response for PA drivers in any price range. They should sound quite good in most applications without a filter network to correct response. After considerable listening, however, I did decide to implement a notch filter to correct the small frequency spike at 2100 hz. I was able to then crossover to the tweeter at roughly 3khz without use of a low-pass filter because the natural roll-off of the driver is so smooth. As part of my testing/tweaking of the finished speakers, I played them for 10 minutes at levels loud enough to require ear-protection and then checked the dustcap temperature to see if the voice-coils were getting hot. I was barely able to detect any heat at all, leading me to believe that they could play at this level for hours without damage.I will say that there is nothing impressive about the build quality, but it appears that PRV used quality parts where necessary to result in outstanding performance. The basket and magnet structure are, frankly, very cheap looking. The spider appears to be of high quality, and the cone is superb, though the accordion surround attached to it also appears cheap.I never measured thiel-small data on this driver, but I did do an impedance sweep to check FS which measured 26hz after I had already thoroughly broken them in. I thought this detail might be helpful since PE states 27 hz and PRV states 31 hz. Also -- they seem more efficient than PE's spec of 93db/w/m, though not as efficient as PRV's claim of something like 101 db.To sum up, there are definitely drivers out there that can handle more power and play louder in smaller cabinets, but there is a lot to love about a driver that costs less than $75 and manages to do a few things better than most drivers at any price. If you're on a budget and want smooth response and bass extension, look no further!Thats all I've got -- hope it helps!

Low Mid Cabs?

I have 10 co-planer dual 15 cabs. Dimensions are: 30"w 30"d 30"t. Rear width is 17" I am not sure of the angle of the baffles. The 15s are separate, as well as ported. My intention is to use these cabs as low mid, with 18s below, and 12" 2-ways above. Is this a suitable driver?
Asked by: The Sound Guys
Without knowing port dimensions or a tuning frequency it's hard to model however it looks like these will work well down to at least 100 Hz so that should be ok.

sealed or vented box?

bassbox pro said that its best in a sealed box and some other program said vented, what should i use?
Asked by: ivanm
Yes this wants a sealed box more than a vented box, something between 4-9 cubic feet will work very well just don't expect much below 40 Hz.
