- Design Goals -
One of the biggest tradeoffs in the design of any subwoofer
system is the overall cabinet size vs. the low frequency
output capabilities. Typically, large subwoofers can create
the best low bass while smaller ones have limited low-end
extension. However, with modern amplifier and driver
technologies, it is possible to get the performance of a big
subwoofer in a small enclosure. So, it was my goal to put
this modern technology to the test by building a relatively
small subwoofer with the performance and extension to
match much bigger subwoofers. But at the same time, I
wanted the complete system to be robust enough to be
used in any situation without fear of blowing or damaging
the woofer or amp.
