Find the Right Woofer

Galaxy stereo

This project has had many revisions over the last few months. Originally this project had two Vifa drivers and a Dayton 5/8" tweeter per channel crossed over at 4000 Hz. This project has always been powered by a 3 cell 11.1V Li-ion battery back with built in over/under charge protection.

I originally wanted to build the charging circuit for this project but once I found out how dangerous charging Li-ion incorrectly could be I decided to buy a power/charging source designed for the task. The amplifier is the awesome DTA that still surprises me with its clean power! For the input to the amp I was disappointed with the Belkin Bluetooth module I was using because of the need for a ground loop isolator which really dampened the frequency response. At this point I decided I wanted to be able to dock my GS3 through the micro USB port to pass the audio and charge the device while in use. So I replaced the Bluetooth module with a Samsung Infuse desk dock that I disassembled and powered with a regulated 5v circuit I built and attached to the Li-ion battery pack. The project now uses two full range Vifa 3.5" drivers in a 6"x6" waterproof conduit box for simplicity. I couldn't be happier with the sound quality and battery life.
