Dayton DC130AS-8 5-1/4" Classic Shielded Woofer
Used this to replace little Advent speakers... Mostly purchased for size... but in comparison these little, inexpensive woofers were remarkable compared to the original Advents...

They do the trick in a pinch

Tang Band W5-704D 5-1/4" Woofer
Great sound for the price. Smoothness makes it easy to cross. Nice cast frame. It's a W5-704S not W5-704D. Used it on my first DIY project, 2 way design. Impressive bass out of a ported box. Building 3 more for 5.1.

Goldwood GW-S525/4 5-1/4" Poly Cone Woofer 4 Ohm
I bought these for a small 2-way bookshelf. Build quality is pretty sub-par...they look nicer on the site than the really are.
These are VERY inefficient drivers; the tweeters you mate with them will have to be padded down quite a bit.
They're pretty thin sounding...below average. It's not a surprise though. In this case you definitely get what you pay for. If you're looking for than inexpensive gem, keep looking.

Dayton DA135-8 5-1/4" Aluminum Cone Woofer
A decent woofer for the money. Nice bas responce in smaller enclosures. They will run to their limits with small amplifiers so use multiples if possible, and crossing above 2.5khz is not advised.

Goldwood GW-5028/S 5-1/4" Shielded Woofer
Mounted a pair to my JBL Control 1 rear surround speakers in order to make them 8-ohms. (Had to bore out the cut-out hole in order to drop them in.) I tested them with full power as fronts first, these speakers can handle 100 watts with no problem. They are a perfect match because the JBL Control 1 line have a nice tweeter. (These speakers need to have a tweeter combo to bring out the highs.) The combination of the two is very impressive, much better bass now. (I was'nt looking for more bass just simply wanted to make the speakers 8-ohms.) Don't let the price of this speaker fool you, they are a great product. (Well built with treated paper, rubber surround and a huge magnet.) Very happy with this set of speakers I puchased from Parts Express.
I will be ordering more of these speakers!

Goldwood GW-S525/8 5-1/4" Poly Cone Woofer 8 Ohm
Small cheesy magnet, light weight steel frame, cheaply made.
Yes, they have a poly cone and rubber surround.
Don't make the mistake I made purchasing a pair to try out. They should be half the price they are selling for, but even then I wouldn't buy another pair.
*Pass on these speakers*

Aurum Cantus AC-130MKII 5-1/4" Carbon Fiber/Kevlar Woofer
I'd like to know what others are measuring for this woofer but I am getting 55Hz for Fs, 6.5 ohms for Re, 0.47mH for Le, 4.8 for Qms, 0.51 for Qes and 0.3cu-ft for Vas, averaged over 4 drivers after a 24 hour burn-in. Needless to say this isn't close to the manufacturer's data but this is still an excellent woofer. The frequency response extends well above 10kHz but the sound is harsh if used as a full range. I have 2 of these in a sealed, 0.6cu-ft test box and the transparency, detail and clarity of the sound they produce is fantastic. I can't wait to hook these up to a proper crossover and team them up with a ribon tweeter in the final system.

Dayton DC130BS-8 5-1/4" Classic Shielded Woofer
Bought A Pair Of These For A Center Speaker Project, To Go With My Classic 6 1/2" MTM's! Kept The Crossover At 2500Hz, They Produce Good Midbass And Blend Well With My Main Speakers.. These Woofers Would No Doupt Make A Good Main Speaker Project!

Goldwood GW-205/4S 5-1/4" Shielded Poly Woofer 4 Ohm
Stay away from PE. One of two speakers we received was used and had a bent frame as well as bent terminals with solder on them. The good speaker has poor performance.

Dynavox LW5004PMR 5-1/4" Woofer
I have made bookshelf (single) and tower (double) loudspeakers with these beauties. The response is quick and clear with amazing extention to the lower range (35 htz with vented boxes.) You can't go wrong with these.

Peerless 830941 SDS 5-1/4" Shielded Woofer
I originally wanted more of the HDS woofers but they sold out, so I got these instead. at $14.50 each for qty. 4, they're perfect for a cheap MTM considering they have a truncated flange. Very easy to work with frequency response.

Vifa PL14WJ-09-08 5-1/2" Cast Frame Midwoofer
This Vifa driver fits and performs perfectly in the Dunlavy SC-I series. The original Vifa driver is out of production (like the SC-I itself). But the plw-14j works great as a replacement.
