Product Details

Pioneer SP-FS52 Dual 5-1/4" Andrew Jones-designed 3-Way Floorstanding Speaker

Andrew Jones, Chief Speaker Engineer for Pioneer, loves a challenge. When the company tasked him with designing a new line of home theater speakers that combined exceptional performance and entry-level price point, he created a sensation.

The SP-FS52 is the tower speaker / front mains for the current incarnation of that line - showing that Pioneer has not rested on its laurels but continues to tweak and perfect its designs. The grills are now removable, but the remarkably accurate and natural timbral balance remains, as does the surprising bass output of the 5-1/4" woofers.

SP-series home theater speakers from Pioneer are a revelation in quality for the shoestring-budgeted enthusiast and perform as well with music as they do with movies!

Pioneer SP-FS52 Dual 5-1/4" Andrew Jones-designed 3-Way Floorstanding Speaker
Pioneer SP-FS52 Dual 5-1/4" Andrew Jones-designed 3-Way Floorstanding Speaker is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing SoundBought these to replace the older Pioneer SP-FS51-LRs I had. So far I've had them for 7 months, but I can still remember the day I got them. I hooked them up(with 14AWG OFC speaker wire) to my heavily modified S-5 Electronics K-12G tube amp for some serious listening(used a PS3 system with 16bit/44.1kHz .wav music files and standard RCA cables as the source). Almost immediately after I started playing the first song, I noticed the highs, midrange, and sound stage was vastly improved over the older model. The improvement was incredible and very exciting! The problem with the weak midrange in the older model was completely rectified in the new model, but they kept it very well balanced, smooth, clear, and spacious. The highs also seemed more clearer and airy to me, although they we're somewhat bright(they calmed down after a couple weeks). The sound stage was wide and instruments/vocals, especially strings, remained clear and distinctive even during loud passages. The bass, however, was little improved(I'm not one of those guys who likes a lot of bass anyway), but it was satisfactory. I also had to turn the volume down, as this model was significantly more efficient. I recommend removing the grills for serious listening as there is a fair amount of plastic in front of the tweeter. They're guaranteed to blow you away!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Superb Value for a Floorstanding Loudspeaker SystemThey are still breaking in, but they did sound good right out of the box. My detailed impressions... Balanced frequency response, with good bass that goes pretty deep (with good energy down to about 40Hz in room) and a good mid-bass kick. Hearty mids and good energy in the highs. Imaging is good as well. The upper mids/lower treble can be slightly emphasised with some less than stellar recordings. An excellent floor speaker for the money, and actually is one of my top picks for under $300/pr.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome for the priceIf you're looking for great sound with very low price these speakers are it! I live in a loft with poor sound dampening between units and these are overkill for that type of setting.I bought a pair of the 4" bookshelf speakers of this same series (PE # 250-656) and was equally amazed in the value to sound ratio of those as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nothing short of ridiculous at this priceI've been working as a production and mastering engineer for the past decade and change now, and in that time grown accustomed to a certain base-line level of accuracy in my listening setups, both for work and pleasure. With Focal SM9s as my mains in my studio and Audeze LCD-3s as my mastering phones, the baseline bar is set very high. For the most part I find even fairly pricey home audio speakers nigh unbearable. Muddy, boomy mid-bass, tinny, harsh, inaccurate treble, poor separation and amorphous, vague imaging all plague even some very expensive, highly regarded systems in my opinion. Up to the point I had a chance to audition the FS52, I honestly felt that a decent set of powered nearfield monitors was more or less the only way to realize quality sound reproduction on a budget. But these flat bowled me over. Do they represent an elite level of detail and fidelity? Not really, no. Do they sound essentially tonally accurate, natural and extended, adequately detailed and present a wide, articulate image? A resounding yes, and that's nothing I've ever been able to say about a budget tower speaker before. Pair these up with a decent Tripath amp like the DTA-100 and a reasonably high quality source, and you'll have yourself a surprisingly competent stereo system for surprisingly little money.

How well do these speakers recreate vocals?

I'm looking for 3 matching floor standing speakers to place behind and audio transparent screen (150") for my projector. I've heard great things about these speakers, but how well would one work as a center channel. Is the midrange up the challenge?Would I be better off just getting 3 SP-C22s for RCL, and saving a little money?
Asked by: DanielEE
I dont see any problem with using three of these in an LCR setup. They are flat enough in response to do a good job in any position.;

Will these work with an 8 ohm receiver?

Asked by: Electric Knives
Typically yes, a 6-Ohm rated speaker will work fine with an 8-Ohm rated amplifier or receiver.On the flip side, if you like to play your receiver to at or near a maximum volume for long periods of time, perhaps an 8-Ohm nominal impedance speaker system might be a better choice.
